PDM is a synth pop band formed in Montreal in 2010 and they give the francophone perspective on what Black Marble, Lust For Youth, and Cold Showers did in English in 2012, as well as fitting in with the output of Lescop. Members are Francis, Anouk, Fred and Cristine.

Their debut full-length, after some quicky old out singles, is permeated by a cold, melodic and nostalgic music for broken hearts and dark minds. PDM is the soundtrack for the nuclear night, a transition moment between the end of utopia and the final ecological disaster. The world after the future.

PDM main influences and interests are underground aestheticisms (1979-1981), industrial transformations and the process of electrification, norms and deviance, nuclear and environmental anxiety as well as paranoia, secret agents, spies and political extremists.

Strongly recommended to fans of Rational Youth, New Order, Martin Dupont, Jacno, The Normal, Xeno & Oaklander.

Admittedly, the extract from the still belies the line in this week's @naviar-records haiku poem challenge. The actual line is "half-asleep eyes", but we'll go with what's in the image. This week I've been collaging splice sounds and playing them live in Ableton, then drastically re-editing. I wanted to mix up how I'm making music. Break habits and form new.

Natsume Seibi (1749-1816) was the son of a wealthy Edo rice broker and was acquainted with a number of other famous poets, including Oshima Ryota and Kobayashi Issa. In addition to his poetry, Seibi left behind a number of fine examples of haikai prose.

A Recovery Wish

His ambitions were high, his hopes low. These were wild wishes which had yet to come true. Only time would tell whether he might reach his goal and succeed. As he gazed out upon the city which lay before him he watched the lights of the buildings flicker. Each of these people had dreams like him, they each strived for something more, why wouldn't they? There would be little point otherwise. The light in the park began to fade and he stood up from the bench on which he had been sitting. He took a breath, the cold air blew, and he screamed. 

Lutto Lento was the first artist to release on Charles Drakeford's From The Depths imprint back in 2014. Now some two years later he is set to return with a new EP which is simply titled "Wild Wishes". Bizarrely melodic and pad focused this one is very much unique in its own right: the horror scream makes it so.

Ana X is a site specific installation that utilizes projections and sound to form a dialog between us and the presence of those who may have once occupied the space, and perhaps still do.

Being aware of the historical significance of the building, we used light and sound as a method for touching the walls and columns of the room, allowing it to enter into a dialogue with the space.

Evil Break-Dance music: The Blotnik Brothers "Mizuage", is the kind of album you'd expect to hear blasting out of a Decepticon Night Club on the planet of Cybertron, assuming such a place even existed in the first place. This trio of  Swedes (who incidently, arent actually brothers at all) make dark, hard hitting electro that sounds like it came from another planet, the kind of planet either inhabited by intelligent robots or aliens who grew up listening to intercepted transmissions of Kraftwerk, Africa Bambata, and 90's EBM. Blending old school hip-hop,  neo-electro, acid breaks, and modern EBM, the Blotnik Brothers have created a dark and dirty album that bumps and booms with menacing bass stabs,  funky breaks, and evil robot vocals. There is very little filler to be found on this 11 track outing, and electro Dj's can pretty much pick and choose what they want to play from this release since about every cut is a surefire floor filler. Even EBM dj's might come across a few gems as well, like the menacing "Dont Worry You Won't Dissolve", which sound like it could have come off the latest Headscan release. Its no surprise that New Yorks Satamile Records picked up on this trio, since the label seems to have the market cornered on outstanding electro at the moment.
