DBFC, signed to Different Recordings late last year are set to release their second single for the label when they unveil ‘Autonomic’ on April 29th.

Fronted by Mancunian David Shaw and Parisian Dombrance, this Anglo-French outfit comes together as a four-way collective, not a band  as such but more a club.  Featuring  alongside the duo come  percussionist Guillaume Rossel and bassist Victor Paillet, the DBFC vision is entrenched within the French electronic music scene but, as witnessed on their debut for Different Recordings, ‘Get It All’, they succeeded in creating a sound that encompasses their multi-facetted talents.

We premiere ‘Autonomic’ today and heralds its arrival inhabiting a more dance-orientated world and whilst eschewing elements of their previous single..

Today, Desert Hearts Records holds high our brother in arms, Marbs, as he makes his debut on the label with his Tusks & Tales EP. As the visual artist for the label, musician, and founding member of Desert Hearts, Marbs embodies the beautifully multi-faceted culture that this community has come to represent. 

Tusks & Tales is a journey through the intricately introverted mind of Marbs, a delicate and sonically melding exposé of the highs and lows fans have experienced in his performances for years. From the uplifting lead and spaced out chords of ‘Tusks & Tales’, to ‘Loveish’s emotive strings and intention setting Ray Charles sample, to the ethereal warmth of ‘Pink Skies’ created with atmospheric pulls from Dark Side of The Moon, Marbs turns from light to dark as seamlessly as the desert day turns to night. 

The EP also helps welcome Barcelona native T CHES to the Desert Hearts Family with his late  night rendition of the title track - a head down, hands in the air remix of the inspiring original. 

"For my first EP I wanted to put something out that explored all the various sounds I enjoy. Not just deep, not just tech, but tracks that had a little of everything. I wanted the EP to embody many of the sounds you hear at Desert Hearts and the influences that brought me to who I am today." ~Marbs

By not fearing his influences and instead pushing them forth as the vehicles for expression, Marbs has created a roadmap through which fans and family alike can better understand his innerworkings - Tusks & Tales is the story within Marbs that is not often heard…

Having lit up sunsets and sunrises the world over with their first outing on Leng, the deliciously Balearic ‘Last Night in Sant Celoni’, Payfone has opted for a more sensual and seductive sound on their triumphant follow-up.
 
Phil Passera and Jimmy Day are in fine form on ‘Sofian’, a deep, chugging and intoxicating affair topped off by a sleazy and breathy, half-sung and half-spoken vocal from Barbara Alcindor, previously of hugely successful European chart-toppers French Affair.
 
As with previous Payfone productions, no samples were used in the creation of the track. Instead, Passera and Day focus the action around hypnotic, slow-motion machine drums and a brilliant analogue synthesizer bassline that will quickly worm its way into your subconscious. 
 
On top of this the pair has layered up warming chords, languid boogie-style guitar riffs, colourful synthesizer lines, hand percussion and mazy Wurlitzer electric piano solos played by guest musician Phil Marten. It’s an undeniably alluring combination of musical elements that offers a clever counterpoint to the barely hidden melancholia within the track’s surprising lyrics.
 
Jimmy Day delivers the flipside ‘Loyal Mix’, a slightly brighter and more vivid interpretation that gives extra weight to the track’s razor-sharp guitar riffs and kaleidoscopic synth sounds. The result is a weighty, synth-powered dub disco workout that makes a fine accompaniment to one of Payfone’s most dramatic and addictive songs to date.

Finally, venturing even further into jacking territory, “Freiherr in der Wall” hinges upon 
syncopated, sometimes faltering beatbox rhythms, a swaggering bassline and fluttering 
arpeggiation. Coupled with hand-played chords, this is a prime example of how Dürerstuben 
can tame the beast machine and let irregularities be strengths. If you can get down with Metro 
Area, Zapp, Tensnake, and yes, even Survivor, then pick this one up.
