Originally inspired by the music electrifying Detroit’s airwaves, Jason Kendig has been collecting and mixing a broad range of dance music for well over two decades. From his first residency at Detroit’s infamous club Motor in the late 90's he went on to become an integral member of San Francisco's Honey Soundsystem and a resident at Smart Bar in Chicago. Kendig's touring schedule has brought him to dance floors around the globe where he never fails to make others move through his ability to reference dance music's past while keeping an ear tuned to the sound of the future.

We're delighted to arrive at our 400th podcast with CARISTA (@iamcarista) at the helm. Since winning a DJ competition a decade ago, the Utrecht native has not stopped. She is now a firm part of the European underground who has platformed plenty of talent on her own United Identities label, regularly plays our own festivals and hosts on NTS while also emerging as a fine producer in her own right. She has a knack for digging far and wide and playing anything from soul to house, garage to electric sounds, and she proves that here. 

Her mix offers fresh and forthcoming music from United Identities artists Conrad Soundsystem and Sansouni, classics from Louie Vega and Kerri Chandler and cutting-edge grooves from Livity Sound. It's a sensuous deep house selection to start with before smoothly moving through the gears with jazzy inflections, body popping bass rhythms and jacked-up percussive cuts. As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. First up we have Tama Sumo and Lakuti, both residents at Berlin's Panorama Bar, the house-focused room upstairs at Berghain. Panorama Bar has played host to thousands—if not millions—of people's most formative dance floor experiences, with an unparalleled vibe, near-perfect sound and window blinds that have taken their own place in dance music mythology. 

The duo's mix highlights the style that Tama Sumo and Lakuti have brought to the club and represents its anything-goes energy, mixing tracks from iconoclasts like Hieroglyphic Being (including one of his best-ever tracks) in with old-school favorites from Reel By Real, Larry Heard and even Ministry, moving from house to industrial to disco without batting an eyelid. Tama Sumo and Lakuti's loose but impeccable flow ties together house music history with a deep love and knowledge of all genres and, perhaps most importantly, the desire and know-how to just make people dance. We couldn't be more thrilled to feature Tama Sumo and Lakuti for the first mix in our birthday series, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

This is a booth recording of Huck playing the headline slot of the September 2015 edition of Midwest Fresh held at MINT Gallery in Columbus, OH.  Midwest Fresh was a series of warehouse parties thrown by a changing cast of Columbus DJ's and promoters including Jed Fenton, Kevin Brugger, Tony Fairchild, Alexi Vlaar, Brian Cheng, Titonton Duvante and Mike Amerine.  It ran from August 2014 - October 2019.

This mix is shared publicly for the first time as part of a series of interviews paying tribute to Huck and his legacy.  The first edition of this multi-part tribute will be published December, 7 2022 at https://presstest.substack.com/.

Note: The sound can be a little hot in the beginning but things level out after a bit.

We’re very excited to present the first Live & Direct of 2023, courtesy of our Pittsburgh-based residents Honcho. 

This one was recorded live at Nowadays on the first weekend of January, to a room of smiling faces for whom the festive nature of the new year had clearly not worn off. It's two hours of the crew in pure form, with all three DJs locked into the same irresistible groove. George, Aaron and Clark have a knack for uniting their own unique styles to present a cohesive vision of chugging, sexy house music, and here it is on full display. Big thanks to Honcho for letting us share this with the world!

In addition to the killer music from both Honcho and Father Dukes, this night was especially memorable thanks to everyone in attendance contributing to the friendly and joyful vibe, from the dancers to the staff and everyone in between. A big thanks is due to you all as well!
