Talented hip hop artist Smash is a rising star in the game, working to create relatable and
authentic music for the masses! Born in Prince George’s County, MD, he has been surrounded
by music all his life through his family’s own work. Listening to everything from R&B to country,
Smash developed an eclectic musical taste that has influenced his own work.
As a teen, Smash was inspired to get into music by a young friend who did an amazing rap
performance at church. Smash figured if the boy could do it, so could he. He was also inspired
by Kanye West’s sophomore album, Late Registration, which he credits as helping him
appreciate hip hop on another level. From there, the budding artist began developing his own
rhymes and skills as more than just a hobby.
Since then, Smash has released three solo projects: FNAO (Failure’s Not An Option) in 2009,
Bear Fruit in 2013, and his most recent EP, Stashed Away, in March 2018. It’s clear that his
authenticity and transparency as an artist truly makes his music stand out from the pack! In
addition to his own individual work, Smash has created his own music label, OFFB3AT BE THE
LABEL, with best friends Dominic Wright and Kareem “Flex” Hunter. With Smash as the
label’s first official act along with artist Bezo, he is looking forward to signing others as well. “I
want to be able to be in the position to continue to help other artists trying to make it with their
music and give them a shot, just like I was looking for someone to give me my shot,” he shared.
“It’s all about paying it forward, especially in an industry like this.”
The artist draws great inspiration from his father, along with his daughter and son, who give him
the push he needs to keep going. Using them as motivation, Smash continues to work tirelessly
in the studio on new music to be released soon. With his talent and dedication, Smash is
sure to be a name in hip hop that you won’t soon forget!
