Dirty Epic invites German artist @deniserabe for the fourth episode of our Amplify Series podcast.

Denise Rabe released her first 12” on German imprint Mutewax in 2015. A solo EP on Arts sub label Arts Collective quickly succeeded her debut the same year, leading up to the label publishing her third release in 2017. This is also the year Denise actualized her own eponymous label Rabe. September 2019 she announced her EP „Manifesto“ on the well established label Stroboscopic Artefacts.

Rabe the label, just like its founder, is all about techno. So far, three hyper modern brutalist sounding 12-inches from Denise herself has seen the light of day. Rabe’s productions are frantic yet deep industrial adventures, all carrying a hefty gothic presence. Her talent has not only caught the ears of eager fans, but also of recognized producers such as Rrose and Shxcxchcxsh, who both have contributed remixes for the artist.

Brought up on hip hop in a small German town, Denise learned to DJ at the age of 16, scratching and mixing, later diving further into electronic music via drum ‘n’ bass and jungle. From there exploring various styles of house, only to some years later finally ending up in techno territory, understanding this is where she truly belonged. Her DJ-sets are powered with the same energy as her own productions: dark minimalistic heavy-hitting eerie techno, often flirting with elements reminiscing of modern tribal- and trance.

Denise Rabe is a pragmatic grounded artist with a clear vision. Her passion for music has led her to be involved in the scene on many levels; whether it has been as a booker for Berlin venue Ipse; a radio show host for the city’s Sweatlodge channel or a club promoter for her own night HIDE and SEEK at Humboldthain.

Born in Germany, now living in Rugby and raised on a diet of techno, a travel-laden up bringing combined with a natural penchant for experimental and diverse soundscapes have paved the foundations for Stephanie Sykes to develop a highly unique musical voice, one unrestricted by boundaries and defined by deviation.

It was the move to Manchester that really helped her find stability, simultaneously providing the platform to explore greater musical virtues. After making her presence felt on the Manchester club scene at various different nights, it was playing at Continue at Sankeys that really ignited proceedings for Stephanie. After linking up with the multi-faceted Techno pioneer Dasha Rush, and a handful of demo tracks later, Stephanie was signed as an artist to Rush’s well-revered Fullpanda Records – a label that pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance music, built on deep, dark and musically emotive experimentation.

Her first foray into the production world accumulated in a two-track contribution on Luna Tactus on Fullpanda, together with Swedish artist Fjader. Spanning hypnotic, sonic-fused experimental techno with a broody, ambient undercurrent, Stephanie’s two tracks – Perplex and Hypo – served as a fine introduction into her stylistically techno-blemished sound.


This aesthetic carries over into her DJ sets, and explains why she’s been invited to grace the decks at places like Berghain, Tresor and Corsica Studios; moreover, it’s led to a residency at Khidi in Tbilisi as well as one of the UKs best known and longest running after-hours Jaded in London as well as ledgendary Atomic Jam which has been going for over 20 years in Birmingham. Her sonic presence as a DJ recently promoted Resident Advisor to award her Inner Escape Podcast as RA Mix of The Day. More recently Stephanie has been invited to work with 4D in Amsterdam – to be part of their residency ‘Techno is Space at Nachtlab in Amsterdam – for her first live performance.

Substance, quality and diversity are the driving forces behind the enigmatic artist who has so far made a serious impact on the techno circuit in the early stages of her career. In both the studio and behind the decks Stephanie strives to bring a raw and gritty modern spin on ambient, techno and experimental electronica, carefully curated and skilfully arranged into one seamless journey.

Nørbak is Artur Moreira, born is the late nineties, in the North of Portugal. His devotion into making music begins early in his life, and since then, keeps working in his studio, day after day, discovering and developing his own sound, diving into Ambient, Experimental and mainly Techno. It all started in 2016 with labels such and Circular Limited and Illegal Alien, where he gave his first steps and since then he has been releasing his music on respected labels such as PoleGroup, Warm Up Recordings, Semantica, Modularz, Affin, Float Records and his sound has developed throughout these years focusing now more on the mental and physical side of Techno, where he finds the most comfort. In 2019 he joins the Portuguese independent collective and label Hayes as an active member, where with his label colleagues he’s pushing the new wave of contemporary Techno. With appearances in some respected clubs like Tresor, Lux Fragil, Gare Porto and Family Club he also feels supported by some of the most respected artists in the scene like Oscar Mulero, Jonas Kopp, Svreca, Dasha Rush and more. His future can only be brighter than what it is right now, with so many boundaries to achieve, discover, learn and cross. Enjoy!
