Into The Twilight With The Smoked Yowie Mix

My first proper set, performed in front of an intimate crowd including some of my closest friends and family. This was a huge dream come true! I had curated this set to coincide with the sunrise but to play such a special set to me, to a beautiful crowd in the crisp, full morning light was something I'll never forget. Thanks to everyone who played a part in planting me at the helm, I feel like I just found another huge part of my soul at home. Your love, encouragement, guidance and support are what really made it happen! Big thanks to Jessie for throwing such a beautiful gathering for an amazing cause. the stage, the lighting, the setting, the people and that Rockin sound! beautiful! Enjoy the choons folks!!

Smoked Yowie @ Rock In Vibrations 26/6/22 7.30-9.30am First Set!

What an experience!! Such an honour to share the stage with so many folks I've looked up to for so long, let alone the stage its self!! Look at that!! Such a collaboration and to see myself surrounded by toggles' fine work still has me pinching myself!!

This is my set, re-recorded at home to re create the experience as best I could with perhaps a couple of tweaks. Its taken a little longer than expected but the stars just hadn't been aligning. I do appreciate the patience, though!

Big thanks to everyone that was a part of that beautiful weekend. Many stories of transformation and growth have come from New Dawn and everything the new year brings and this set was put together with this in mind. I curated this to be the soundtrack to my year, of sorts. Its been an amazing rollercoaster of a year for myself and my family, this little journey is my psychedelic interpretation of that. From raising puppies and growing our beautiful 4 legged family to relaxing in mother nature and all the chaos, hard work, repetition, joy and happiness in between! I hope you enjoy the ride!! DJ set for a magic little gathering just outside of melbourne called Bunjil. This was such a wholesome gathering with cheeky family vibes for days! I had so much fun playing this set, half curated, half on the fly and it was a huge experience as a whole. Thanks to everyone and the Bunjil fam for throwing such an awesome party! So many smiles, so much boogie!!

Here is my auditory contribution to the first edition of Intrinsic Gathering. This was such an awesome opportunity to play amongst some real heavyweights in the Australian scene that I've looked up to for many years leading up to this point in my life and I feel truly blessed to have graced that mind-boggling stage! 

This was such a beautiful gathering that encapsulated everything "doof" that we all know and love. The crew that put this together are nothing short of absolute platinum edition legends, the location was surreal in its perfection and seclusion, the beautiful souls that attended were radiating love and happiness with infectious smiles all round, the decor, stage and lighting created an atmosphere that welcomed you as much as it melted your mind and and it was an all round experience I'll never forget!

Thanks to all the beautiful goblins that stomped to this set during the witching hours of early Sunday morning! Your smiles and heavy stomps were as staunch as ever, especially for that hour of the morning! It felt so blissful seeing so many of you connect with the music, I could see so many faces showing all the same feelings I feel when I hear this music and it humbles me to have this opportunity to share it with you all 🥰

Smoked Yowie @ Intrinsic Gathering, Sunday 3-430am 15/10/23

Here's my 3hr sunrise set for a brand new little party I was blessed to be a part of! This was my first opportunity to play a 3hr set and i thank the organisers and all the beautiful souls that stuck it out in the crisp morning cold! I put this together with intentions of putting together a journey in a safe space, to create an atmosphere for finding new parts of ourselves we may not have known existed yet. 

Meandering through time guided by groovier psytrance into a space of a comfortable bounce, gathering momentum, strengthening our resolve. Then wandering into the forest as the sun rose, discovering some side trails here and there that lead us to a strange but unusual paradise where we begin liberating ourselves from the night into the day. Stomping with our strength in our new found selves and ready to hear the birds and the sounds of the morning. This is exactly how I felt throughout the journey as I discovered new peace and relaxed in the space, with more faith in myself and greater appreciation the beauty of our people. I hope you all felt something too!

Smoked Yowie 3hr DJ set! @ AustrAliens Bush Party 6-9am Sunday 31/3/24

Well, this one has me a little lost for words! Here is my contribution to this years Intrinsic Gathering! And what a gathering it was! I couldn't have been more honoured to be handed the stage from one of the greats of our scene, Shammie AKA Pspiralife/Aaralku and from that moment onward, I have never felt so connected to a dancefloor. Thanks to all who stuck it out through the rain and wind! I honestly thought as the rain got heavier before I stood up to the decks that most would flee the wet but barely a soul left the dancefloor and I couldn't be more grateful and full of joy. As the rain fell through the sheets of lasers it was like the dancefloor was shrouded in a blanket of coloured glitter and it created the most magical atmosphere. One that can only be experienced by withstanding the cold and the wet hinting at the duality of life its-self. Amongst the hardships in life there is beauty to be found and in this moment, we experienced something truly magical, I hope you all feel it too!

This set aside, thanks to all who attended and contributed to this truly special event! It was transformative for me to say the least and I'm so excited to see what the year ahead has in store. Bring on the next one!! Much love to you all!!

I'm Jim, AKA Smoked Yowie and much like the yowie of myth, I can be a reclusive creature at times. I live in the hills in country Victoria, Australia near a tiny town called Lexton. A town some of you will know is the home of the magical Rainbow Serpent Festival. For me, it's the place where I first sunk my roots in this beautiful scene. After attending 10+ RSF events between 2004(ish) and its finale in 2019, it was from around 2015 that I began to open up and really discover what we all know and love as the Doof. After finding my groove on the dancefloor in the heavier sounds of full-on, night-psy and soon enough, forest psytrance, I had an epiphany in the tiny hours of the morning after a solid night on the dancefloor. I knew what I wanted to do in my heart and that one day I could realise that dream! It was a moment I'll never forget and the reason I will always pinch myself when I get the opportunity to put together a show for you beautiful souls!    

On the business end - I love playing energetic, hard hitting psytrance for the bush aiming to bring smiles, challenge boundaries, stomp, bounce and flow in the darkness and blue hours of the morning. Bringing elements of twilight, night-psy, goa and forest together with a dash of weird to form psychedelic journeys bound by heavy basslines and wild soundscapes. This is the beginning of my journey into the world of Psy! Please enjoy what I have to share as a DJ in the making! Good music, heavy boogies with friends and family and lots and lots of love!
