The Bunker Podcast 235 comes from @erikluebs. This is a live set recorded in Milan on March 28 at the party Acquario.

Erik Luebs is a US-born musician and sound designer based in Japan. Eschewing typical genre tropes, Luebs approaches techno with a playfully disruptive technique, reinterpreting the fundamentals using built-from-scratch patches and labyrinthine sequencing. While the labor-intensive process is inspired by a wide range of luminaries such as Mark Fell and Rrose, the resulting music is firmly tied to the dance floor.

Luebs released an EP on The Bunker back in 2021, and has since released on DJ Nobu’s Bitta label (@djnobu_bitta), and @nousklaeraudio. He also has an upcoming release on the legendary @kompakt imprint.

Erik will be playing an ambisonic surround sound set for a horizontal audience at Going In at Reforestor’s Laboratory in Brooklyn this Friday, and an extended sunrise dancefloor set at The Bunker’s takeover of @nowadaysnyc Nonstop on Sunday morning.

He started DJing in 2009, forging his own distinct path and consistently dedicating himself to the growth of the Korean electronic music scene. Beyond simply playing music, he actively cultivates an organic relationship with the scene through various endeavors. He's notably the planner behind the electronic music festival 'PROMPT', delivering fresh audiovisual experiences, and a co-founder of the underground music community 'tread', contributing to the establishment of a free and vibrant music ecosystem. He also maintains an active presence as a member of the renowned electronic music label 'Oslated'. Currently, he operates 'atdge', a DJ bar in Seoul, directly engaging and connecting with listeners on the ground.

For our opening mix, we’re delighted to share a recent Steam Room session with the Bangkok-based selector and producer Sunju Hargun. 

For two hours, he delivered a masterclass of immersive, deep and psychedelic techno. And true to style, the set is a seamless flow of intricate rhythms and subtly shifting textures, shadowy grooves and pulsating basslines.  

This mix was mastered in the Area52 Studio.

Cio D’Or hardly requires an introduction, having long stood as both a pillar of our scene and a source of inspiration for so many. Over the course of her singular and decades-spanning career, the Cologne-based artist has cultivated a universe of sound entirely her own, immediately recognizable yet endlessly evolving much like the work of her contemporaries and collaborators Mike Parker and Donato Dozzy. To experience Cio’s music is to follow a throughline that traces the complex history of contemporary techno in a single gesture, compelled by the vast unknown and the primordial familiar in equal measure. Recalling the blurred realism of Richter’s photo-paintings or the timeless intricacy of Bach’s fugues, Cio’s self-contained sonic world delicately reframes our own precious lifecycle, a reflection revealed through its elegant and subtractive minimalism.

In collaboration with our friends at Mostra, I’m honored to share a selection from Cio D’Or’s set performed at this year’s edition of the Barcelona-based festival, a sublime triumph from a scholar of sound.

Music is fundamental to human existence.  I believe music should be transformative.  It is by nature hallucinatory.  Time and space are relative and flow freely, just as a turntable drifts and records change. Moods are created and modulate; built up and destroyed.  The interconnectivity of the world brings disparate locations and cultures together.  I've recorded this mix using 2 turntables, a mixer and my collection of vinyl.  There's an ebb and flow to it.  It's just not interesting if it doesn't have any human in it.  :)

I started DJing in 1998.  Made cassettes and computer music before.  Guitar and piano before that.  The Yard project has been running since appearances on both Narita/M3rck and Skam records in 2004.  My second full length album was released last year on Further Records.  There will be a third full length Yard CD released on Yard Rec soon.  A collaborative project featuring Anders Ilar and Yard, among others, will also be released on Yard Rec in the near future.  We're based out of Portland, Oregon.
