Smokey and the Band is the Tennessee-based rock and roll love project birthed from founder Scott Tsakeres’ vision to create organic western-rock. On the first full-length album “Reverie”, Tsakeres wrote, produced, and recorded nearly all instrumentation and vocals for 11 tracks that capture a guitar-driven, rhythmic groove definitively unique yet vaguely reminiscent of the beloved guitar rock of the 70s. The album’s first track “‘Til I’m Gone” features a good-time, swing rock that sets the tone for the entire record. Classic western influences are readily apparent in the SATB debut, particularly in the rhythms and riff-carried segues of tracks like “Once Again” and “They Ain’t You”. Perhaps more notable however is the album’s overall listenability. The Beatles-esque melody-focused sound featured in tracks like “Wake Up” and “Home” make for an enjoyably sweet musical flavor. Add in a Hank Williams Sr.-meets-Chris Isaak western twang, poignant lyrical content, and noticeable vocal care and you have Smokey and the Band – relevant music with an easily digestible sound good for the mind, body, soul and ears.
