Smpl Thngs is an experiment exploring the experience of the immediacy most commonly associated with the digital world, here transposed, to an analog / real life setting.
It's a study of human connection, the imperfect beauty of spontaneous expression and our innate, but often hidden, ability to communicate our emotions without any premeditation. Finally, Smpl Thngs is a celebration of the fleeting moment conveyed through unfiltered ad-lib / off-hand creativity.

The spontaneous recording and illustration sessions that led to the creation of this project took place at the Tolcha Recording Studios located in Weissensee-Berlin; occasionally re-routed to the Georgian Parochial cemetery. The recordings feature the sound of a veteran Rhodes piano, field recordings of Berlin and the interwoven voices of singer-songwriter Graciela María and spoken word artist Lukasz Polowczyk aka RQM. All illustrations, as well as a full documentation of this project were made and put together by illustrator / comic book artist Maki Shimizu. String / cello arrangements were added to the recordings after the sessions, by multi-instrumentalist / composer Simon Houghton aka Sneaky.

Making a living as an artist is a struggle in most parts of the world. It seems to be the borderless conundrum of having a passion for art and a fever to create. One perk of the job though, is that no matter where you go, you're bound to find family. No matter the city, around the bend of every club or bar there seems a familiar face. Odd Oswald was one of those blasts from the past that we found ourselves reunited with in our travels this past year. At one time a celebrated San Francisco disc-jockey and promoter -- Odd O aka Brian B stepped into the smoke of the European music scene and never looked back.  Busy behind the curtain as a label/tour manager for big name acts, we knew that his new found perspective could only have added to his already killer approach to digging and mixing. So, to show an old friend some new tricks, Odd made us this mix - his last one for us was back in 2012(http://bit.ly/2m1NoHv). The penchant for dark and filthy sonics that made his bay area sets such a delight are still present in this 2hr acidic rave-jog - but these selections are razor sharp, preposterously programmed, and grab you harder then the punch of an epi-pen.

One of Dancing Astronaut’s artists to watch in 2017 and the man behind one of the most impressive debuts of 2016, Beatport #1 album ‘One Day of Independence’ on Guy J’s Lost & Found, returns to home ground. This time in the shape of 5 incredible remixes by some of electronic music’s most intriguing and brightest stars.

Lehar, Luca Bachetti, Patrice Baumel, Termoment and Lost & Found head honcho Guy J have each reinterpreted their favourite off Khen’s future classic debut.

‘Imaginal Cells’ has been repurposed by the label boss himself into a beautiful slice of melodic goodness. With trippy FX details and a serene breakdown, its yet another Guy J classic rework. 

Diynamic's Lehar offers his take on the Khen and Guy J collabo ‘Prism’, turning down the intensity of the original with a sophisticated touch, he leads the track to deeper waters with an infectious melody that marries the familiar underlying key elements of the original in perfect symbiosis.

The sonic voyage continues with Luca Bachetti’s groovish take on ‘Authentica’. Adding to the recognisable lead melody, he gives the track an almost cinematic and atmospheric treatment that leaves you longing for more.

Patrice Baumel, fresh from the success of his recent remix of Cubicolor, tackles ‘Land of Goshen’. Taking the track in a more driving and pumping direction with a nod to 90s classic Trance, this track will cause a stir in sets from dusk to dawn.

Closing the collection on a trippy vibe with hints of old school Acid and an uncanny detailed soundscape that will leave you in awe, is Termoment’s take on ‘One Day of Independence’. A beautiful and fitting finalé to this weighty package of reworks.
