"Pavlovabar was one of the most memorable and best gigs of my life! I hadn't been out much in Sydney before so wasn't 100% sure what to expect, but I'd heard from a few friends that Pavs was the spot. I was super excited to be given the trust and freedom to play all night long, I really do love to play long sets with the time to explore a wide range of genres and vibes throughout the night. To my surprise people started showing up quite early and the place was already packed around 1am! The crowd was a beautiful and colourful mix of people from all ages and backgrounds! It was so nice to see. I remember that night it was bloody hot and the aircon wasn't working so people were getting completely naked. The heat kind of added to the mania and people were really pushing me to play harder and crazier. I really loved the give and take of energy and by the end I felt we had all been through something together. 

This mix is a lot more chill than what I played that night, but I do remember playing a lot of Australian stuff. Things from Hymns, Reptant, Logic1000 and others so I tried to play as many Australian and especially Sydney artists as I could. Thanks for having me, hope you enjoy :) " - @katemiller

SMUT Press and Saint Valentine are very excited to welcome Sióg as the latest addition to our Sounds of SMUT mix series! Sióg is an Irish DJ, visual artist and co-founder of SWOON, a Berlin-based party and mix series. Featuring friends of the press Cáit and Mercorn (½ of DJ Garden Party) amongst others, SWOON release ‘new sounds with every full moon and throw parties on a blue moon’ - with the next edition taking place in April at Fitzroy. Sióg has appeared on likes of Refuge Worldwide, Threads and The Lot Radio, as well as providing guest mixes for Daisychain and Fuaim, and with this cheeky little Valentine’s flirtation she has provided us, it isn’t hard to see why!

This hour-long mix is bumpy and breaks-heavy, with hints of sultry 2-step throughout. It's impossible to talk about the sound of DjRUM without using the word cinematic. Whatever he does, it has a feeling of grand importance, widescreen elegance and moving emotion that elevates it way above a dance floor soundtrack. Throughout the course of his career, the UK artist has drawn on downtempo, blurred the lines between drum & bass and dubstep and always imbued his music with spoken words snippets, piano and chamber instruments. His Portrait With Firewood album was a real high-water mark in 2018, and last year his latest outing on R&S once again managed to draw on every aspect of electronic music and come up with something all his own. 

His mix for us this week is a perfect ethereal rave that finds plenty of beauty in the sparse rhythms he draws on from the worlds of garage, techno and drum & bass. There is a delicacy and elegance throughout, even when the beats hit hard and fast as they do at the overdriven and manic mid point. The amen breaks come thick and fast after that, but eventually melt away to propulsive ambient soundscapes that suspend you in time and space. Blissful.
