Up next for Tapes #115 is Xi’an-born and Toronto-based music producer, DJ, pianist, and radio presenter, Ciel. 

She is the creator of Work in Progress, a women-prioritizing concert series in Toronto; a co-founder of the immersive multidisciplinary events platform It’s Not U It’s Me; a co-owner of Toronto electronic music label Parallel Minds; a member of the internationally-renowned women & LGBTQIA+ DJ collective Discwoman; and also produces a monthly radio show on Rinse FM. 

Whether a label boss, grassroots rave promoter, established producer or adventurous DJ, the same strongly-held beliefs shine through everything Cindy does: that of focus on the community, upholding diversity and inclusivity, and playing her part to leave the scene in a better place than when she first entered.

A deep love of hard house, prog and trance form the backbone of her sound, where these styles fuelled Ireland throughout its formative 90’s rave heyday, Mercorn’s sound is characterised by the soaring basslines and giddy snare rolls from that era and her careful selection always cultivates an unmatched fizzing, brimming energy. Offsetting the brisk winter days this mix was influenced by the sound of hot sexy summer and captures her signature euphoric energy. Expect deep percussive riffs and fab vocals, this is one that will keep you coming back for more! 

Mercorn is a Dublin-based dj and a lifetime member of the rave. She trades exclusively in dancefloor transcendence who embodies the psychedelic lifeblood of Irish rave history through her joyous selections, vivacious spirit and also as a member of collectives Tender and Skin&Blister.  Over the last few years her rise has been steadily building with notable attention around the UK and Europe from some of London’s most celebrated queer parties such as Adonis at The Cause, Big Dyke Energy at Venue MOT and Fast & Bi-Furious at Dalston Superstore while also at home in some of Ireland’s best clubs such as Yamamori Tengu, Wigwam, Index. Mixes for Haŵs and Proxima further her impressive cause. Aside from djing, Mercorn is an active community builder in her hometown of Dublin. This is most prevalent in her membership of collectives Skin&Blister and Tender. Both collectives have been instrumental in diversifying Ireland’s music landscape in both clubs and at festivals.  She is also a pioneering independent designer with her MNW Design business, individually handcrafting each item of clothing she sells.
