i like this part too, the strings run in the background are good, same as the woodwinds, but i feel like a cello could have filled this void here!

This is a heartfelt composition, wonderfully scored for a musical story, beautifully told.

It sounds almost real, the quality of your VSTs, soundfonts, or whatever form of instrument you are using are quite amazing actually.

We all come From Chaos. Whether you trace back the origins of mankind to heavy chemical elements born in the cores of collapsing stars or the very human history from our tribal feuds to world-scale military conflicts. This is our fate, to come into existence and shape the world around us until we fade away, reborn in the hearts of new generations. In the synthetic hybrid blend of the instruments the melody is born. With energetic string arpeggios following the rhythmic electronic pattern, vocals and piano enter manifesting what it's all about, repeating over and over again an octave higher and finally leading up to the climax with the original theme of Remnant brought back as the source of undying hope and the will to move forward.

Premiered at the Australian Youth Orchestra Summer Music Festival on 17 January 2025 at Elder Hall, University of Adelaide, Australia. 

Conducted by Stefan Cassomenos, performed by the AYO Tutor Ensemble.

This piece imagines the aurora as a series of dances. Streaks of light appear, building to vibrant pillars of red and green. The lights travel, shifting and merging into one another, fighting to become visible with a gritty, stilted intensity. We are catapulted into a moment of stillness, where muted pastels shimmer in and out of existence, building to an ethereal waltz across the night sky. These ritualistic dances intertwine, evolving and colliding, before gently fading out of existence, leaving nothing but the twinkle of stars.

Night Dances - for chamber orchestra (2024)

Inspired by the aesthetic nature of Lilburn’s early works, such as Forest and the Drysdale Overture with their romanticism and use of tonal and modal melodies, In Glory Undimmed for piano trio is a through composed work honouring the landscape sound world present in Lilburn’s works. Blended within the work is a brief quotation of the opening bars of the composer’s second movement of the Three Sea Changes, which has always been a personal favourite. The contrary motion chord progression followed by the arpeggiated triplet run of the Three Sea Changes are found in various rhythmic forms and melodic contexts throughout the piece, superimposed as a counter subject over the main motif that flows throughout the work. 

In Glory Undimmed

Next year, our school isn't going to be the same again. Many of our awesome teaching staff are leaving at the end of this year, including the favourite teacher of most of the students.

Our computer science teacher taught well. He created the best working environment I've ever experienced in my school life. He inspired us through his teaching methods, which is why I wanted to inspire him in turn by creating a small farewell album - which this song was featured in. We'll all miss him next year, but we wish him all the best for his position in his new school...as a music teacher!
