Been fixated on this Badfinger song since like, age 6. 
In 2013, I was recording every beloved song I could think of, in elaborate, full-band arrangements like this, and performing and recording them track-by-track all night in the basement after work. Clearly, i was too excited about some "lead" guitar licks I'd improvised on this song, so the controlled-chaos is palpable, just the way I like it, and if nothing else this recording is an interesting time-capsule of my psyche, worth posting just for posterity, if'n yer ask me.

Hey also, when The Beatles first signed Badfinger to Apple Records, John Lennon suggested they call the band "The Prix", for the sole reason that American audiences would inevitably pronounce it incorrectly as "The Pricks"...and I find that pretty funny too, even though it reveals more about what a "prick" John Lennon was than anything. Somehow Badfinger seems far more vulgar though, in a less-tangible sense. So as long as we're all havin' a laugh, I guess it all turned out ok in the end. I hope you enjoy my labor of love in covering this song; there's like 12 of me on the recording, between all the instrument and vocal tracks, so it's truly emblematic of that "Band o' Randys" sound I keep trying to make into a thing. Originally written and recorded off the top of my head, in one take, and on a travel guitar in Spring 2013, I then listened to the raw recording enough times to recognize that the free-associated lyrics, chords, and structure actually formed a pattern that was practically as good as a "real song," like the songs written by people who aren't me.
So later that year, I used the original take as a guide, and played/recorded all the instrument tracks along with it, as an exercise in making and layering full-band sound, as though all the band-members were myself. I coined the phrase "Band-O'-Randys" to describe the sound, which felt to me like a controlled-chaos or a lumbering, overwhelmed giant trying to stand on its own shoulders on the precipice of eternity and oblivion. Or conversely, it sounds like I have a dissociative multiple-personality disorder, and I called each one of me into studio at a time, got them drunk, and made them play their instrument/vocal-line as though they couldn't stand the other 6 or 7 of themselves in the band. Whatever, it's just a goddamn song and I like the way that it all feels more real and legitimate to me as its writer the longer I grow and learn to love and respect myself. They shouldn't even give me space to describe the song here, I'm not doing myself any favors by rambling self-indulgently about it. "Band-O'-Randys?" Fuckin' get over yerself; you know damn-well a song just speaks for itself so let 'em listen, Randy, Jesus!

Oh but I can say this much: at the song's climax, I mentally envisioned one of the Randys (me) on vocals jumping into the booth out of nowhere, with a lightning bolt on his face and a sequined unitard, belting out a high-harmony/melody at the end. So for what it's worth, that's how I pictured this song if 7 of me were recording it live in studio. I had fun with it. I dunno.

So I made a vocal-melody and taught myself to play "Desperado" with a broken right-hand, and instructed Jeff how to transplant the melody,  and here it is:
