Dig It (And Put Up On It)

Nach fast vierjähriger Abstinenz sind die jugendlichen Rabaukenschleimer Snøff und Tøff zurück, mit einem Album, welches der Nordberliner Vorstadt Tribut zollt. The Beat, die erste Auskopplung, beweist, wie gut ihnen das gelungen ist. Es geht um das Aufwachen, die Großstadt, um den Mob der „Anderen“, die einen lähmen aber auch befreien können. Es geht um den Beat – das treibende Schlagzeug des neuen Bandmitglieds Meghan Wright, wird zur Metapher des Herzschlags. Die Zeit verstreicht – Wunden heilen, Menschen finden einander, Routine setzt ein. Berlin als Echo, als Chance, als Geist. „I see those people on the street / who never go for what they need / guided by a certain beat / oh I try so hard to stand the heat.“ Die Vorstadt als melancholisches Zentrum unserer unerfüllten Wünsche. Und weg vom Teenietum und Opportunismus: „Don’t follow me“, heißt es ganz am Ende. Jeder muss seinem eigenen Herzen folgen.

Musikalisch hat sich die Band stark weiterentwickelt: klanglich eine Art urbanen Folk anpeilend, werden die Byrds und The Velvet Underground ins Fadenkreuz genommen und mit Versatzstücken von 60s-Soul verknüpft. Die Zukunft bleibt ungewiss, aber irgendwie wohnt dem auch eine immense Schönheit inne. Die als Trio aus Ruinen wiederauferstandenen Snøffeltøffs wissen auf jeden Fall, wo ihr Weg hingeht:  Frohnau – Album Nummer 2!
