Crossing Monoanthropocentrism

For once, I successfully built off of a months-old doodle. This one stuck with me.

Funnily enough, the distorted pretty-hard-panned-left thing came from opening a YouTube video while listening to a WIP. An ad with a distorted, left-panned guitar played over the first notes and created a tritone. Thought it sounded cool and oddly appropriate.

He asks you to take a piece of him far away, as he himself is rather locomotively challenged, and stuck down a side path in a forest. Kinda bittersweet, isn't it? I'm that snowman. I'm asking you to dance for me, as my extreme disability prevents me from doing so. :D Maybe you'll trip on a hard uneven surface and we can both be cripples! :D

Remix of nite system - "Salamander Beat Crush mix" (you can read)

Includes a few other BEMANI keysounds (PERFECT FREE mostly) and melodies  too, plus a whooooole lot of other shenanigans.

This is the first time I had to start shoving module chains into metamodules just to stay under the hard module limit.

Created within three weeks, on a OnePlus 3, using SunVox. Cheap, functional music creation app that's also free for desktops.

Considering making a much shorter cut for stepfiles.

Album proceeds go to a charity that helps combat childhood cancer. Also, everyone had less than a week's notice. Had to work fast!

The title is the first name I could find (with Google, of course) of a racehorse who came in last place. It’s surprisingly fitting.

(Don't set the bar this high, but) I'd say Oneohtrix Point Never's recent works had the strongest influence on me here, particularly "Love in the Time of Lexapro" and "Last Known Image of a Song" if I had to pick.

Newgrounds was the first place I ever hosted any music I made, and now that it's gotten a fresh wave of artists, I'd like to support any glimmer of a potential return to relevance. Revitalize the Battered

Managed to slip another one in for FAWM. Started as a little doodle with a wacky module chain coming off of a single microtonal synth - much of the loop here is just that. Was too catchy to ignore.

Probably the most blatantly Actress-influenced thing I've made in a while. He's my favorite artist, but I don't usually incorporate much of his style, structurally... which makes sense to me. Little point in making what I can just pull up and listen to already, from a master of the style. :V

In turn, the project file is available in the Discord server in my bio, under #salt-ear-blarmnpt. I can't even play it on my device anymore, though. There's no more room for modules, and it stutters constantly. Part of why I'm calling it done now…

I spent about half of the time between the announcement and the deadline either working on this remix: https://soundcloud.com/so-ing-machine/transient-the-humans-are or experimenting with strange, gimmicky module setups that I had trouble bending into decent music. I wanted to submit something technically clever that would serve as an inspiring demo track. Then, after doodling the bulk of this melody, I decided to just pursue it for the comp, and hope for interesting techniques to arise naturally within it. Some kinda did!

Given that and that this is for a competition at all, I've been a bit worried that this or any other oddball entries might not appeal widely enough to earn demo status. Fingers crossed for the weirdos we'd inspire!

With zero formal background in music theory, figuring out 2:03 was admittedly a bit tricky, juggling the keys and trying to convey how the movements of the freeform melody made sense to me. (It even took me a couple minutes to remember when I came back to the project after initially roughing that out…) Hopefully the note velocities are enough to clue in listeners.

Kinda rushed the climax? Maybe? I wanted a smooth onset, but it might come off as more of a weakened spike in energy. It felt short when I was finishing up, too, but now it seems like it's just barely the right length. But what do I know, I'm just the artist. :V This may all sit perfectly with another pair of ears, or come off as pure noise to you misophonia sufferers out here browsin' music pages.

I imagined that mess of waveforms drifting around through the second minute as a chunk of an alternate reality passing by. The middle is when half of your head gets caught in it.

I'm bedridden and playing with sounds in SunVox on a phone.

I'm dropping explicit blanket permission here to distribute my music as necessary with charts for community-powered rhythm games + monetize gameplay recordings.
