By the early 2000s, when much of the electronic world was chasing trance highs and vocal hooks, Moshic Shlomi—known mononymously as Moshic—was charting a darker path. His take on progressive house was not just brooding; it was cinematic, steeped in tension, mood, and layered melancholy.

Releasing early work as Argonout, Moshic made his mark with tracks on Cyber Records and appearances on compilations from Global Underground to In Search of Sunrise, showcasing a sound both atmospheric and emotionally rich. Now leading his own label, Contrast, he continues to explore the space between light and shadow, with recent productions finding a home on imprints like Bedrock and Bonzai Progressive.

His Balance Selections mix delivers on the promise of the label’s name: a carefully curated journey of contrasts that never loses its introspective core. Paula OS is a Chilean-born, Argentina-based producer, singer, and DJ crafting atmospherically rich electronica influenced by acts like Radiohead, Portishead, and Björk. She launched her solo live project in 2017—dreamy vocals with hypnotic textures—which eventually led to a collaboration with Hernán Cattáneo and Soundexile on Renaissance: the alluring ‘Harvest’ EP. Earlier this year, she founded her own label, Sopor Music, kicking things off with ‘Image’, a solo six-track album coded with electronica and emotional hues.

On this Balance Selections mix, Paula OS delivers a dynamic take on progressive, filled with cerebral moments and pure dancefloor diesel. ‘Spinning yarns’ Is the Set I did for the ‘So What! Radiowshow’ & its exactly that ! A story of spacey electronic beats weaving in and out of some deep tech house, with lots of high stringed synth stabs & base fueled rhythms building to a progressive house crescendo then drops into some breaks which flows nicely to the second half mixed full of tech house vocals.

Biography:
Sometime towards the end of ’89, the UK’s Summer of Love, dj macusa, or mac as he was then known, decided he wanted to get into some serious DJing by figuring out how to mix properly with the small but growing crate of records he had been gathering with his frequent visits to Glasgow’s infamous record shop, 23rd precinct.  This revelation came after he heard a bedroom mixtape by a young Welsh DJ who exploded on to the scene taking up residence at the legendary Hacienda, Manchester, who went by the name of “Sasha”.
This was not the first game changer for the young aspiring DJ; First time at Fat Sam’s, all the early Rhumbas & Sweatboxes in and around Perth & Dundee, even a visit to the Hacienda itself all added to flavor his musical tastes which were progressing from the early Italian Piano house, Belgian & Detroit techno to more of a homegrown progressive sound. With artists & labels like Leftfield, Fabi Paras, Junior boys own, Guerrilla, etc all breaking through in the early 90’s it was enough to wet anyone’s appetite for the love of the beats.
By the time the 90’s drew to a close,  macusa’s love-hate relationship with the dance scene phenomena had him opting for the road less traveled; preferring a more experimental underground style akin to “big beat” found on labels Ninja, Finger Likin’ or Marine Parade, rather than the huge trance superclub fad that was happening at the time.  By the time he got to London in ’98 he was playing purely breaks and thankfully there was scene for that down in the smoke, where he took his place.  
In 2000, a move to California proved to be a bit of a culture shock.  Cut off from the source of readily available record shops, dj macusa found inspiration in imported CDs from back home, James Lavelle and Adam Freeland’s twisted future electronic sounds that were seeping out of Berlin in the form of minimal and nu disco led him to James Holden and the Border community label which is when macusa transitioned into the ‘digital’ world of DJing and has since evolved into his current style of progressive chunky beats, deep tech house, Techno, electronica, and occasionally some breakbeat.
The last couple of years has seen macusa producing some quality sets available on Soundcloud, where he has gathered a good following. A radio guest podcaster, and selected as one of Scotland’s best underground DJs for Frisky radio’s recent all day event “Frisky loves Scotland” as well as working on some of his own beats will see macusa release his first solo track in 2016 and a few remixes in the pipeline are sure to broaden the horizon…
