Born Again Basil is a song I decided to compose for fun with the main idea being, the song keeps evolving and never returns to any former part, yet trying to achieve a sort of “full circle” feeling upon introduction of these new riffs. I feel as though I was personally successful in this and I am really pleased with the result. Likewise, the idea of the song is to confuse the listener, maybe make them laugh even, as I want the song to be an unexpected and deceiving journey while listening.

Lyrically the song is inspired by the “toxic relationship” between me and my basil plant from the Basil’s point of view as I only care for it to use it for pesto. Furthermore, I’ve accidentally killed it and managed to “rescue” it by placing the branches into a glass on my window sill and replanting it once the roots sprouted; hence Born Again Basil. I told my coworker this story, and with most things I tell him he says “sounds like a good song title” so I took the unintended challenge.
