Teratoma /ter·a·to·ma/ Gr. teraton, or monster] n. A tumor made up of different types of tissue, none of which is native to the area in which it occurs. Teratomas have been reported to contain hair, teeth, bone, and, very rarely, more complex organs or processes such as eyes, torso, and hands, feet, or other limbs. Early beliefs explained the growth as a punishment for cannibalism or adultery with the devil.

Odradek /Od·ra·dek/ At first glance it looks like a flat star-shaped spool for thread, wound with ￼old, broken-off bits of thread, knotted and tangled together. ￼He lurks by turns in the garret, the stairway, the lobbies, the entrance hall. Tubular – Mondo took as a starting point the rapid sampling techniques of Footwork music, cutting and looping grains of sonic (often vocal) material, completely irreverent of phrase boundaries of the original sample, resulting in jagged, fragmented, dense textures. Taking these ideas to the string quartet world, I was interested in creating a disrupted continuity between quasi lyrical gestures and their cut-up electronic resonances. In the first movement—Tubular—all players follow and interpret a unison line according to different instructions, leaving them improvisatory openness within rigid temporal synchronicity. In the second movement—Mondo—the ensemble breaks apart in an attempt to performatively open the stage focus.

Borealis (flute, viola, double bass, 2018)

Aequorea paints a romantic portrait of the sea, revealing both its strange, otherworldly qualities as well as its intense beauty. Aequorea is a genus of bioluminescent sea creatures, the most famous species of which is the Aequorea victoria, or Crystal Jelly. 

This recording is of the premiere during the 2012 Fresh Inc Festival, featuring Lily Floeter (flute), Herine Coetzee Koschak (cello), and Jessica Ryan (piano).

Steam takes the listener into a whimsical fantasy world in which an eccentric inventor is creating a flying machine. The melodies and rhythms found throughout the piece are designed to feel awkward and uncanny, yet at the same time fun and endearing. The first movement takes listeners inside the inventor's workshop where they can find all of the unusual tools and contraptions that live there. The second movement paints a picture of the inventor as a well-to-do gentleman who is a bit eccentric by taking a tonal melody and distorting it to fit inside an octatonic framework. The third movement portrays a complex yet slightly clunky contraption through rhythmic intricacies and the use of such gestures as clarinet squeaks, extreme jumps in register, and breathy flute harmonics. The fourth movement evokes the inventor's feelings as he takes his new flying machine out for a spin.
