Scribe & Onglish set out with the intention of creating emotionally visceral art. ‘Vices’ transitions seamlessly between melodic and aggressive over haunting production. Onglish performs wizardry on percussion, layering original recorded sounds of metal and wood with heavy 808’s that disappear & reappear, adding a sonic subliminal plot to heart wrenching verses. 

Written in 2018, Scribe reflects on his grandfather’s passing, his struggles with substances & suicidal thoughts, his fears around his upcoming marriage & the state of Toronto at the height of one of the worst summers of gun violence the city had ever seen. Scribe sings with growing emotional intensity before his voice shows obvious heartbreak at the violence plaguing his hometown. “I got your vices in my DNA, yeah I checked/ I bet my life that we won’t be the same“.

SOAP is a rapper/producer duo consisting of Toronto poet/rapper Scribe and Hamilton based producer Onglish. After Onglish produced several beats on Scribes debut project in 2015, the two agreed on working closely to create a culture of risk and trust, pushing each other to expand their abilities.
