Beyond the Lines

This is a sort of collaboration jam that I did with some friends. :) Everyone did one part and then uploaded a wav file of the full track. The next person would load that in a DAW and add their own wav, and so on. Finally, I took all the tracks and mixed them to my tastes. This is the result. There might be other mixes later! (In which case I'll come back and link them here.)

"We're high up on a hillside, looking out over the Casilan Sea. Most of the hustle and bustle has been left back where we came from. Most of the buildings in Belio, the parts that are more loudly inhabited, are clean, white stucco, and clearly not designed for cold. This building is mammoth. Its giant pillars and walls look carved out of a hillside, and its doors are thick wood."

Ah, the mysterious Stately Quarter. Another side-path added for the visual novel, this is mostly a tie-in to later stories. This track is a "palette shift" of Seaside Tango, and a bit of a pun... I wonder if they sell dumplings up there.

I'm getting myself back into Cubase since 13 came out, and I'm trying to do some practical work with the AI model I trained. It's me singing, but with a coat of AI paint on top. I'm working on training some more quality models, too.

A fancy overture track based on the old "Anthem Trailer" track I made a while back. This was me learning how to use Reaper to orchestrate. That is a steep freaking learning curve, but I think I'm getting it finally.

I know this isn't perfect, but it makes me happy, so... :)

Harmonic Overture

Since I decided to incorporate Long Way Home into Fractured Harmony, I've been pulling in some of the old LWH tracks, rescuing them from FL Studio ;) and remixing/rebuilding them in Bitwig. I decided to go ahead and give this one more "B-side-ish" lyrics-poetry that was less awkward.

The name is a playful pun on the topic of the story bit (a datacentre).

We turned another corner in that endless white space, the old hallway suddenly out of view as we walked toward a new door. It looked much like the door we’d seen on the entrance to the white space, but somehow more… practical. Simple, flat, grey metal, but with the star chart patterns painted on its surface in iridescent colours. As Core approached, the door slid open silently, and we were gestured inside.

The room was huge, at least the equivalent of three or four floors of a building. All of the walls, from floor to ceiling, looked like super clear windows. Various stations were located around the base of the windows, and some on tiers rising up toward the back of the room where we’d entered, with gear at each station specialized for navigation, comms, and so on. A quiet hum filled the room, which had a sort of musty smell I didn’t remember from Dogfight. White points streaked by the windows as if we were flying at incredible speeds through stars.

It was an experiment.

The original was FL Studio, the newer one is Bitwig plus FL Studio as a VST (to get Harmless/Harmor).

The gimmick with the new version is that it's using vocals from Dreamtonic Synthesizer V. (Specifically, Liam and Solaria.) This thing is dark magic! I think the result is pretty respectable.

Third time's the charm I guess. 😹 This is a mild re-imagining of the original song with much better tools and skills. The original (https://soundcloud.com/soaria/beyond-the-lines) came during early 2020 as a pandemic project. The update (https://soundcloud.com/soaria/beyond-the-lines-jaoushingan-mix) came as a literal remix, still using FL Studio, but imo, still fairly bleh. This one is using Bitwig, FL as a plugin, and Synth V as a plugin. Three DAWs at once, no big deal really. ^^;

The concept was originally inspired by "Love, Chuunibyou, and Other Delusions", and has some personal stuff thrown in too. Well, without further ado:
