Montreal’s Beaubien Ouest can cause quite the daze in the heat of Summer, so stepping out of the bedroom into the shed made all the difference for Holland. Live-off-the- floor takes with pals Rory Seydel (on guitar) and Jeremy Dabrowski (on the bass) can be heard on the Title Track, whereas freaked-out Dx7 melodies and harmonies makeup “Royal Plus” and “Closer”. An homage to one’s home & its dreamlike qualities, as well as a practice in call & response.

Saint Petersburg summers are an open window for a never setting sun. “White Nite” sees the Untitled Gear collective paying tribute to this season where they reside. The title track follows the sun’s behaviour stubbornly locked in groove, while blinks of bright rhythms wax and wane. “Just better” and “It’s Wonderful” bend between hooks and ambiguous tones, shining through as two reflective dance songs; yes, there is singing in both!

Physical Therapy assembles a flurry of kicks and thick breaks around deep subs and tender harmonies. Lush moments are balanced with saturated rhythms, pushing the momentum in each tune. Spoken words skip over dubbed out synths on "More Sugar"; always a euphoric treat on the dance floor! On the B-Side, PT flexes for the verdant tropical techno of "String Thing." Landing as Gene Tellem’s first record, “Who Says No” is a product of change. New relationships and collaborations emerged out of a time when familiar spaces in Montreal were disappearing. This state of ambiguity, and improvisation inspired the freeform structures and subtle transformations heard in these tracks. While “Moving In This Way” and the title tune push forward with intention, “Soul Of Man” floats between lush drones, a pitch bent lead, and a pair of haunting chords. “We were all being tested in different ways, and trying to figure out what would happen next…”

It’s about time the Grammy nominated artist returns to the dance floor with Self Service. Opening with a robust tear jerker, “Cell Site in Somerset” takes up a whole side winding through trance motifs, choral harmonies and slamming percussion. On the flip the energy settles, and slide guitar moves into the spot light. “Marigold Mix” ebbs and flows in density and momentum, chalked full of understated builds and breakdowns. Rounding the 12 out “Self Service” starts with no intention of ending. Dance Music at its most blissful.

https://soundcloud.com/jessefuterman and his ornate personality are most comfortable when collaborating and highlighting the best in people. 'Waterzone' is the sound of such experiences. The talent of Stacey Shopsowitz (Bass), Chris Edmondson (Saxophone) and Beverly Glenn­-Copeland (Voice), are introduced in turn, as if by spotlight, on “Vista”, while Futerman takes back stage to lay out the foundation. It’s a subdued side of the artist that’s rare to witness while he’s behind the booth, but all too common when in the studio. In a similar fashion, Futerman carefully presents samples with jammed out melodies and percussion flourishes putting his spicy spin on all that is deep.

Hailing from Santiago, Chile and residing in Milan, Italy, Paula reveals her passion for rhythm through two distinctive cuts. Agua Congas slinks along, driven by a thick bass lick and insistent mallet dyad. Classically dubbed out guitar and vocals air the mix out, while a saw lead slices through, opening it all up. On the flip, Playa Frenesì leaps in with slamming percussion and a bass hook that'll blow your monitors, watch out! Crispy guitar solos rip in, resting for a moment, losing no momentum. Stepping back, Project Pablo was lucky enough to bend the A side stems into a lush stomper. Vocoded harmonies wash over the OG's mallet melody, and the rest just coasts along... Enjoy!

This one has taken too long to lineup, but then again hasn’t it arrived right on time? Unknown Mobile flies out of the gate with Clocktower, maintains momentum through Felled Birch, and cools down as Starstruck enters: a real whirlwind of a record for the main room and chill-out room alike. One could say that the artist is influenced by their location in place and time, but its feels as though UM’s sound has been shaped by powers more distant. While the choral harmonies, low-end arps, and melodic meditation transport us through a late 90’s discogs dig, the modernity in production guides us to the future. Auxiliary percussion and a plethora of classic synths makeup these sludgy, intuitive, melody saturated disco hits. Sticking with the theme of community, featured musicians include Antonio Manzari and Paul Taylor.

SOBO’s parent label, Arbutus Records, requested alternate dance mixes of Moon King’s hit album “Voice Of Lovers” from three long time companions: Dane, Cooper Saver and SOBO’s own Patrick Holland. All created and collected for SOBO’s 10th record. Smashing out the gate is Cooper’s mix of “Free Time”. His signature percussion and arp combo barrels down the scope of the song without ever coming up for air. Aptly chosen as the lead single, this mix gets the music video treatment from the elusive Dr. Cool. On the other side of the spectrum, Dane and Patrick rework “6 Months”, into two unique mellow trips. While Dane’s focuses on the groove, Patrick’s aims for the heartstrings.
