Sodalite is a rich royal blue tectosilicate mineral widely used as an ornamental gemstone. A light, relatively hard yet fragile mineral, well known for its blue colour, it may also be grey, yellow, green, or pink and is often mottled with white veins or patches. According to crystal symbolic theory, sodalite is a stone that is 'good for healing breaches in communication.'

'Soda' is found naturally in alkaline lakes, in deposits where such lakes have dried, and from ash produced by burning various seaside plants. 'Lite' is a word-forming element meaning "stone," from French -lite, variant of -lithe, from Greek lithos "stone.” In soundscape ecology, it may refer to an imaginative environment focused on timbral variation with a novice approach to melodic arrangement.
