Expressing a musical venture that draws from the combined roots of IDM, house and techno, Mind Against are the Italian native but Berlin based project of Alessandro and Federico Fognini. Heavily affiliated with DJ Tennis’ revered Life and Death camp, the duo embody a sound that they say is “difficult to describe”, instead referring any attempts to define their sonic identity to the psychedelic hooks of 1980s soundtracks and dancefloor antics of Milan’s imperative parties. Currently in the midst of a European tour, the duo are about to stop off at our Charterhouse corner for the very first time when they join DJ Tennis, Clockwork and our main man, Terry Francis in Room Two. But before the aforementioned event, both Alessandro and Federico have kindly taken a few moments out of their busy schedule to tell us what they’ve been up to over the past few and deliver a new and exclusive promo mix along the way...

An act birthed from the island outreaches of Maui, the Hawaiian pairing of DJ/producer Marasco and vocalist Gretchen Rhodes were always going to craft something slightly left of dancefloor centre. While the production arm of the duo comes from a more conventional house and techno background, singer Rhodes has recorded and performed with iconic musical figures such Mick Fleetwood and Steven Tyler. 
Their creation for Bacchetti’s ENDLESS sees the duo deliver ‘Addiction’ a dubby offering, tinted in dusty atmospheric tones and a certain haunting, tension-filled dynamic thanks to Rhodes haunting vocals that masterfully switch between singing, spoken word and breathy whisper over the course of the seven minute cut.
Johannes Brecht takes ‘Addiction’ into decidedly sinister territory, muffling the vocals and introducing impact-heavy bass, dark stabs and an eerie bell melody to create a murky house re-work that’ll stand out from the rest.
Completing the package is Hamburg import Patlac, who pushes the work into more harmonic territory, with velvety synths coating a bed of crisp percussion, before a memorable key pattern adds a delicious hook.

Yes, it is classified as a paradise. In this paradise where a multicultural world meet with psychedelic, Polynesian and American sounds, it generates something really unique. With over 7 million plays and counting on YouTube Compuphonic's 2011 collaboration with Marques Toliver, 'Sunset' raised the bar pretty high. Since then Maxime has gone on to produce remixes for the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Gotye even and fellow Belgians The Subs (winning a Red Bull award in the process) and release two acclaimed EPs on Berlin label Exploited.

Now finally Maxime and Marques have reunited for a new EP on Exploited, 'Magical Shoes', and the results are everything we could have hoped for.

Having delivered two huge club hits in 2014 with ’Radio Atlantis’ and ’O Cypres’, Belgian star Compuphonic returns this February with his third EP for Exploited, ‘Magical Shoes’. 2 tracks of sublime House music, the ‘Magical Shoes’ EP sees Compuphonic finally reunited with the Beyoncé approved American singer Marques Toliver, whose vocals previously graced Maxime’s 2012 breakout hit ’Sunset’.

Once again this Transatlantic pairing have struck gold as Compuphonic’s distinctive brand of deeply emotional, nuanced, House Music provides the perfect setting for Marques’ plaintive vocals. With it’s distinctive Korg M1 organ and shuffling beats ‘Magical Shoes’ instantly brings to mind legendary ‘90s New York clubs like The Sound Factory but thanks to Compuphonic’s production skills it goes well beyond that of simple period pastiche and sounds utterly fresh for 2015, a bonafide club hit that is already peppering the sets of DJs such as Laurent Garnier, Tensnake and The Magician.

As the title suggests the EP’s 2nd track ‘The Sun Does Rise’ is the natural successor to the duo’s previous outing. As deep as the Pacific Ocean this is a trance inducing hymn to hope, music designed to elevate the soul as much as move the body and bring some much needed warmth back to clubland. Expect to hear this played everywhere and anywhere this year where the party goes through the night and the first morning light breaks over the dancefloor.

Recorded in the famous Vantage Point Studios in Antwerp - dEUS’s own recording studio, a special, inspiring moment for Maxime, a lifelong fan of the band - the ‘Magical Shoes’ EP cements his position as one of Europe’s most talented producers and with remixes to come soon on Carl Craig’s Planet E and more original material on Exploited, the future is looking bright for Compuphonic.

Ninja Tune's Counter imprint meets Modeselektor's Monkeytown to release RY X and Frank Wiedemann aka Âme, remixed by Matt “Radio Slave” Edwards and Thomas “Cagedbaby” Gandey (the latter two also now known as Matom for their more Kosmische output), on an 11 minute deep'n'meaningful dark-club epic? It's such a big-name pile-up, it was always going to either be lowest common denominator or highest common factor; thankfully, though, it really has given us the best from all involved. This is one of those magic tunes where you keep thinking nothing's happening, then suddenly you realise it's risen up around you to become all-enveloping, and before you know it you're compelled to take it from the top... and not just once either. This needs a health warning, it's so addictive.

2014 saw Steyoyoke Recordings put the finishing touches to their artist roster and the label is now experiencing an ongoing creative continuum, bringing Steyoyoke to its current state of musical solidarity. ‘Family Affair Vol.04’ is a testament to this, as it provokes new inspiring ways for the artists to inspire and influence each other. Split across two separate releases, Part 1 and Part 2, “Family Affair Vol.04’ comprises of 9 remixes, which sees all the Steyoyoke artists adding their own personal flavours to some of 2014’s biggest tracks.

Part 1.
Soul Button’s remix of ‘First Glimpse’ by Aki Bergen is the curtain raiser. Possessing a little more energy than the original, this remix boasts an alluring new intensity and vibe. It is captivating and uplifting.
Next up, is Aaryon’s remix of Soul Button & Talul’s ‘Chasing Thoughts’. Building upon the intricate layers already existing within the original, Aaryon intertwines edgier synth flurries and a more sinister bass line.
‘Hydra’ by Animal Picnic is remixed by Nick Devon, who chooses to focus on the originals unyielding drive. Nick really draws out the true ruthlessness of this track, with techno influences infiltrating this remix from start to finish.
Dahu takes on the remix of Aki Bergen’s ‘Helix’ and he customises it with some menacing elements. He does however maintain the originals “raw minimal techno groove” and garnishes this with industrial style accents.
The final track on Part 1 is Ran Salman’s version of ‘7th Heaven’ by Soul Button. Opting for a slightly punchier sound, Ran enlivens his remix by incorporating a few extra synth riffs and a bouncer bass line.
