In 1969, one of my family members, Alan Bean (my moms cousin) went to the moon on the Apollo 12. This mission moved him incredibly, and after retiring from NASA and the United States Navy, he spent the rest of his life creating art. He started painting images of space, saying he wanted to “add colors to the moon,” and said that since he’s been one of the few people to experience this, he wanted to show his experience through art. He did this for the rest of his life, and he was the last living member of the Apollo 12 mission.

For Rainbow Rocket Ride, lyrically and sonically, I wanted it to be PSYCHEDELIC and WEIRD and have it put random colorful images in your head, in similarity to how Alan wanted to have the moon be colorful. At the time of writing this, I had just let go of something in my life that was making every good experience I had SADDDD, oh my living lord I was so sad all the time, while having such amazing things happen for me. Letting go of it felt like coloring in the moon.
