DJs Shinpei and Kentaro were friends and fellow DJs at a monthly rock party called Popground in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. They made this album by mixing music on turntables and adding samples with a Roland Dr. Sample 303. The Popground party ran at least from 2004 to 2007 and was held at two venues in the city. In the photograph, Shinpei is on the far left and Kentaro is on the far right.
On March 31, 2021, Shinpei Yamanaka passed away. He will be dearly missed. This is part of his musical legacy.

Shinpei Yamanaka was a rock DJ at a monthly even called Popground in Kurume City, Japan, between 2004 and 2007.  He passed away on March 31st, 2021. This song asks us to look inside when we feel like there is no hope, because there always is. Maybe it is hard to see and maybe it isn't perfect, but there is a flame and there is a balance that can be found.

I did this live on April 7, 2006 with my friend Shintaro Moriyama from Kurume, who at the time was called by the stage name Hong Pung. We did several shows together. こちらは2006年4月7日、久留米出身の友人、森山しんたろう（当時ホン・プンという芸名で呼んでいた）と一緒にライブでやった録音です。 私たちは一緒にいくつかのショーを行いました。

This song was done during the short year that I was in the Kurume band called Nanakorobi Yaoki (meaning: Fall Down 7 times, get up the Eighth). There were seven wind instrument players, a bassist, a drummer, a guitarist, and I. We created several songs, and this recording was done when we were still quite... green. However, it's a cute, happy song, so I thought I'd share it for old time's sake. Our songs touched people, but when they graduated from college, suddenly they told me that they couldn't play anymore because they had to work. I was crushed.  A year after we had broken up, I was walking alone on OyaFukouDori, a street in Fukuoka City, where we had one of our live shows, and a guy I didn't know came up to me. He asked me excitedly, "Are you Sofia?" I said yes, and he responded, "The things you said at your live show had a deep effect on me and I really appreciate what you taught me. Thank you so much." I was flabbergasted. I had no idea that my songs and words would have affected someone so much. I am deeply thankful to my band members and the universe for giving me the chance to sing that year.　この曲は私が久留米の「七転び八起き」というバンドに在籍していた1年間という短い期間に作った曲です。 そのバンドに、管楽器奏者は 7 人、ベーシスト一人、ドラマー一人、ギタリスト一人、そして私はボカリストでした。私たちはいくつかの曲を作りましたが、このレコーディングは私たちがまだかなり…青々とした頃に作りました。 でも、可愛くてハッピーな曲なので、思い出のためにシェアしておこうと思いました。 私たちの歌は人々の心を動かしましたが、他のバンドメンバーが大学を卒業したとき、突然、「仕事があるからもう演奏できない」と言われました。 私は打ちのめされました。 別れてから1年後、ライブ会場だった福岡市の親不幸通りを一人で歩いていたら、知らない男性が声をかけてきました。 彼は興奮した様子で私に尋ねました、「あなたはソフィアですか？」 私が「はい」と答えると、彼はこう答えました。「ライブであなたが伝えたことは私に深い影響を与えました。あなたが教えてくれたことに本当に感謝しています。本当にありがとう。」 私はびっくりしました。 私の歌や言葉が誰かにこれほど影響を与えるとは思っていませんでした。 その年に私に歌う機会を与えてくれたバンドメンバーと神様に深く感謝しています。

I did this ad-lib song with my friend Sock Harris from Mariposa, California. His son, Sky Harris, is now a well-known drummer. I sometimes practice on Sock's old electric guitar, which he gifted to my niece.

The lyrics to this song are about looking back to who you are and what your roots are in order to find happiness. I only wrote the lyrics and the melody for them, and sang the song. We did it with only one take, so it is still kind of rough, but I hope you enjoy it. The rest of the song was made by someone else.

I've been singing since I could toddle. The first time I sang for an audience, I was three and brought delight to the people in line outside the bank; I could tell they were bored and unhappy. I'm still hoping to instill joy and change hearts and minds with my songs.
1st solo: age 7.
Formal singing lessons: 11 - 18 years old
2 - 4 performances each year. 
Audiences 200-400 people.  
Daily practice, private singing lessons.

2003 to 2007: a lot of MCing & working adlib with musicians.
2017 - 2019: DJing and vocals
