Soft Metals- Tell Me

"In the Air" began as an impromptu 20 minute jam session with our friend Diego Herrera of Suzanne Kraft and Pharaohs. The music and lyrics came together quickly and naturally. We weren't expecting to make a song together, but were really excited with the results of our collaboration. Afterwards Ian and I added a refrain and edited it down into a more concise piece. Then sent the track off to our friend JD Twitch of Optimo to enhance the beat for the dance floor. 

This is a song is about the excitement you feel, an awakening that comes upon you suddenly when the seasons change.  Like when you are a kid and you get the first warm day after a cold winter.  You can feel the energy wash over you like a chemical and the birds are singing and the flowers and leaves appear out of nowhere and it seems like the breeze is laced with ecstasy. You have the feeling that you want to be in love and you want to give yourself to passion.  The world becomes a magical place, changing beautifully around you, manipulating your emotions and behavior.

Soft Metals- In The Air

Soft Metals is an electronic music duo from Portland, Oregon. Its members Ian Hicks and Patricia Hall began writing and recording songs together in the spring of 2009. Inspired by a diverse array of synthesizer music, their sound lies somewhere between dance music, austere synthetic pop, and experimental electronic composition. 
Soft Metals is signed to Captured Tracks and released their first record, an 5 song EP titled “The Cold World Melts” in July 2010. Their debut self-titled album came out in July of 2011. FACT magazine called Soft Metals “one of the most accomplished and ambitious of the myriad new synth-pop acts coming out of the States.” In 2013, they released their 2nd album, "Lenses". They have toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. Currently the duo is working on their 3rd album.
