Refraction and Reflection has taken field recordings and synthesizer sounds and processed them in various ways to alter and reconstruct the original. Some of the sounds present are complexly processed recordings, retaining none of their original qualities, others are delicate noise, and then there are those which recreate the sounds of nature, such as that of treading on snow or tree branches, or the call of a bird. There are truly a great variety of sounds utilized. In this album, I tried to bring into harmony both the tactile and the deeply spiritual aspects of sound.

Following his EP ’Sun Ghosts’ from a few months ago and debut album ‘Landforms' (2011) is Wolf Maps' second album ‘Purity’. His most personal work to date crafts layers of guitar tape loops into eight tracks of ambient drones, which with an apparent emotional fragility, envelopes the listener in washes of translucent memory and life-weary noise.

As an experienced drone-creator with a large following in the experimental music community, Wolf Maps has reached a new plateau in his work, placing him along side his established peers.

Limited edition: The first 30 copies of ‘Purity’ will be white tapes, the rest will be black. All are hand numbered.

Linear Bells - Oh Swans !

For me, music always exists within a space, within a context, and as a texture of phenomena. It is my sincere effort to find the sound of spaces, contexts, and phenomena. I am a Seattle-based music producer, and Noctilusense is my musical alias. 

Over the years, I've worked various day jobs in custom music curation and studied recording studio technology. I finally took a turn into producing my own electronic compositions starting in the late 2000's. (My even earlier training in classical and jazz guitar informs my music too, if in some very oblique ways.)
 
My current sound is a combination of softsynths, processing, and ambient guitar exploring textures and overlapping tonal layers. Usually slowly evolving and sometimes static. Frequently liminal and  melancholic. Occasionally romantic but never sentimental.

To borrow the words of contemporary music critic Alex Ross:  "In all, I approach music not as a self-sufficient sphere but as a way of knowing the world."
