Our 60th podcast comes from Mike Midnight.

Over the past decade, Mike has established himself as a versatile DJ, with standout downtempo EPs like Angel Hours and the collaborative trickpony with Roza Terenzi and Gem K. His productions channel early 2000s nostalgia through lush textures, emotional pulls, and playful sampling.

Recent mixes for NTS’s Braden Wells, Rinse.fm’s Baraka, and pipipi showcase his deep knowledge of club music, trip hop, and downtempo. With a delicate grip on energy and flow, Mike delivers a hazy morning-after remedy of hopeful synth pads, angelic vocal washes, and bleepy melodies.

To borrow a phrase from Best Available Technology, this mix is a sprawling selection of sonics proper from old friend of the label, NTS and Radio alHara host, Lucia Kagramanyan. It's an hour and change's worth of heady mind-melters, that should, if nothing else, offer up a non-caffeinated alternative to the coffee you so desperately need to make it to the office you keep promising yourself you'll leave. It could also make for a pretty decent soundtrack to your pilfering anything not bolted to the floors of the job you did finally quit, but how you consume these mixes is your own business. We're just thrilled to have Lucia finally here on the series.

“A recording from pe:rsona in France, one of the most memorable sets of the summer for me!! 

I felt a connection to this crowd in particular and that’s not something that happens often. A lot of this is down to the people behind this festival, the pe:rsona/Positive Education crew are very intentional with what they do, they champion and support a lot of artists who aren’t necessarily ‘big names’. I think this cultivates a crowd that trusts in their curation, they’ve fostered this really special energy. 

I played on Friday night between two live sets, Christian Coiffure and Renslink. They are two incredible acts to be sandwiched in-between which inspired the set to evolve the way it did.
