Give Me The Night Time

Melbourne-based artist Market shares Potential, the second single from their upcoming EP 2. Effortlessly weaving lo-fi tape production with auto-tuned guitars and washed out synths, Potential features fellow Melbourne artist POPPONGENE on vocals and is a beautiful example of Market’s stunning pop sensibilities. 

Market’s upcoming release was written and recorded in the iconic Cairo Flats, an Art Deco 1930s residential complex in inner Melbourne, while being deeply locked down during the pandemic. Despite the grim circumstances, the lightness of the space is reflected on the EP through its use of breezy-jazz chords and cheap bright drum machines. 

Speaking on Potential, Market shared; “it’s about doing your best to communicate with someone and learn from your mistakes. I think it’s easy to ummm and ahhh and second guess your place or the reality of a situation when you’re not explicitly communicating / asking questions. I wrote it at a time that I felt pretty done with that back and forth.”
