An upward gaze
Flung into sky restless and quicksilver
the intellect shines
on the faraway lights of Mercury.

Soaring the heights 
Mercury on heels,  
in its Roman sandals  
soars on the wings of  flames
leaving the song breathless

A  messenger sears
 scatters the sounds of fever,
a dervish burning to know,  
to feel, understand what it is to be ecstatic, 
what it  is to be a part of  heaven

This Bulgarian sings, 
with energy, speed, sagacity 
all the while coyly winks to you 
through vacuum Black Sea

a sparkling voice 
of a balkan nomadic
her radio pulse is oscillating, 
luminous ecstatic 

So it is nature to mourn
the dead, to be frenzied in woe 
like the gravity her song 
that hums a dizzy lambent drone

but also too like women's gossip, 
busily spins her stories from clay,
and on a pottery wheel bakes 
the glaze of a darbuka all through the day
