London-born DJ & producer Marcellus had had a bountiful 12 months, dropping flavours across Elrow, Relief and Deeperfect, grabbing the attention of Dennis Cruz, Michael Bibi and Jamie Jones. Now, the UK talents’ beats have landed on Jones’ Hottrax for the first time in the shape of his weighty four-track EP ‘Reeces Pieces’. 

Ghostly pads float over snaking percussion in the fibrous lead track ‘Reeces Pieces’ as male and female vocals battle it out over a brooding bassline, before ‘Reputation' brings the funk with slappy strings, jazzy motifs and deep tones. Next, ‘Wild’ takes no prisoners with pounding low-ends and sassy, loopy lyrics alongside twisted samples, ahead of the swung ‘closing track‘ ‘2003’, harnessing convulsing synths and crescendoing drumrolls as a fitting finale for this dancefloor-ready EP.

David Pher makes his debut on PAWSA and Michael Bibi’s flourishing Solid Grooves Records this December, with Music On favourite Leon stepping up on remix duties.

Concluding a notable 2016, which included an impressive debut Ibiza season alongside releases from top talent including Dennis Cruz, ONNO and Wade, Solid Grooves now welcome Berlin based DJ and producer David Pher to make his debut on the imprint. Since making his production debut in 2008, the German has gone on to release on the likes of VIVa MUSiC, Tsuba, Gruuv and Material, whilst gaining support from industry heavyweights including Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Marco Carola. Here we see him deliver two fresh productions with Music On regular and Chelsea Hotel Records owner Leon providing a stellar remix to ‘Over’.

Pher’s original of title cut ‘Over’ opens up the EP in fine fashion, unveiling a series of hypnotic vocals, moody low-ends and haunting keys guided assuredly by rugged kicks, before ‘S.T.L.Z’ showcases a selection of finely worked percussion patterns, twisting effects and sweeping sonics. Shaping up the EP, Leon turns in a trademark groove-led remix of ‘Over’, laying the focus on a bumping lead line and crisp hats whilst re-working the originals eerie vocals.

Solid Grooves Records returns with two percussive cuts from Italian producer Franz Costa with label founder Michael Bibi providing a remix.

Having released on Deeperfect, ElRow, Antural Records and Natural Rhythm, Franz Costa’s upwards trajectory is indisputable. The Italian’s productions have been regularly championed by the likes of Marco Carola, whilst his abilities in the DJ booth has seen him become a resident for Ibiza Talents, not to mention numerous appearances at Pacha Ibiza, Egg London, Bora Bora Ibiza, Classic Club Italy and more. He now joins the Solid Grooves Records roster, spanning PAWSA, Wade, Dennis Cruz, Reelow and David Pher, with a pair of club focused tracks this February.

‘Two Step’ features a heady bassline as a medley of raw sounding drum hits and glitchy vocal snippets operate throughout. ‘Moving Balance’ then ventures into more rhythmic territories with its intricate percussion, stuttering synths and catchy hook before Michael Bibi’s weighty reinterpretation of ‘Two Step’ implements metallic nuances and a rumbling low end.

Having debuted on 2tone Records, Charles Pierre may be a relatively new name but his productions have been championed by the Solid Grooves Records co-founders Michael Bibi and PAWSA for quite some time. With consistent road-testing and undeniably strong crowd reactions the label now provides a platform for Pierre’s next anticipated outing.

A rumbling bassline takes centre stage in ‘Directions’ whilst a recognizable sample, thudding kicks and various effects come into play. ‘Right Beat’ is more mesmerizing by comparison, featuring sharp percussion, hypnotic looped vox and a sultry low-end.
