We are all on a journey in life. We are constantly seeking our purpose and a vision for our own future. Though our path may wind in ways we never expected to take us to places we never imagined, we should always be placing one foot in front of the other. But, to some, living life on an unknown path can be daunting and overwhelming. Sometimes we find ourselves looking at others without understanding why they are headed in certain directions. “That’s not the path I would have chosen,” we may mumble to ourselves. The only reply to this is simple; “You Have To Understand”. Argentinian artist Sonabit’s first release with Slideways aptly named ’You Have To Understand’ comes from this very place.

The brilliantly dark and twisted Original Mix layers haunting abstract synth lines and melodies on top of a deep and gritty moving bass line. From the first beat, this song captivates the listener into a bouncing hypnosis while a menacing vocal line repeats the title of the track. The song climaxes into a mind-melting break where the sounds swirl and speed up through, what feels like, a new dimension, which then drops back into a steady, chugging bass and groove. Sonabit has definitely brought his A-Game to the table on this one.

For the first remix of this EP we bring back Slideways favourite, Solid Stone, who continues on the same dark vibe with his signature liquid-bass vibe. He expertly draws us in with subtle transition builds and effects that lead us into massive drops without effort. His style is a perfect compliment to the original with chunky tech-house percussion and a thumpy, deep kick. Solid Stone definitely did it again and we’re happy to have him back on Slideways.

Our second interpretation welcomes one of Mexico’s fastest rising artists, Alejandro Manso, whose style has matured so much in the last year that we simply needed to have him on board. Alejandro goes deeper into the shadows with a huge kick and rolling bass while psychedelic delays and reverb cast over the lead stabs and synths. An incredibly trippy vocal pans left to right as he brings us deeper into the song where we're lured into a final break filled with highly effected synths that playfully dance over the silence... and then a deep thump approaches from the distance and a simple kick brings back from the trance and back to his rolling bass. Incredible work by Alejandro.

We couldn’t be more proud to have these three incredible artists on our next release. Each takes the listener on such a powerful journey through dark shadows and melodies as we continue on our paths. If you’ve ever been on this type of path before, you know that sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming. But, it’s uniquely your path to choose. Others may not get it, but hey… only ‘You Have To Understand’.
