On Friday the 3rd, The School Book Depository releases the new single with the French-sounding name Cul-De-Sac along with a video recorded in the abandoned Lake Dolores Water Park (Rock a Hoola Waterpark) in the desert outside Barstow, California.

The song is a catchy, chorus-heavy indie pop hit that also breathes soul, gospel and Americana with dynamics and sudden twists. The song is about a longing for a life beyond the prison of gadgets, loans, administration and tedious workplace meetings we build in our eagerness to acquire even more gadgets in a one-way journey towards an existential dead end. A well-sounding punch in the chest to the life we ​​call “All mod cons” delivered with humor, irony, vocal harmonies and groove.

Fittingly, the video is shot in the abandoned Dolores Lake Waterpark, Newberry Springs in the desert just outside Barstow between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and stands as a perfect backdrop for the fragility of consumer society. The beautiful landscape meets the remnants of commercialism's low-intensity, final death throes. The dream that came and went, a haunting whisper from a past that promised so much more but left only a hair dryer, a food processor, a SEARS product catalog to wither away under a merciless sun.

In May 1962, a basic campground adjacent to the small lake was opened to the public. Over the next 25 years, rides and attractions were added, and the site evolved into a waterpark, which was advertised on television with the slogan "The Fun Spot of The Desert!”. The park was closed in 1999.
