They sometimes say that perseverance will win the day in the end and this is what happened with the Afro Funk monster of 'Piani' from French African artist Jo Tongo that took several years of negotiation to bring to the fruition of a potential Mukatsuku Records release. From the haunting intro this is one tune that you will never forget after first listen as it tippytoes through an afrocentric funk /disco groove that will keep your dancefloor alight. With the release of “Oba”, BBE has uncovered a rare gem. Production duo Dan Stillit and Oli Savill (collectively, Deep Tenor City) bringing together a wide group of the most accomplished (some Grammy- nominated) artists from the worlds of Jazz, Latin. Fusion, Funk and Afro-beat. “Oba”, recorded in the winter months of 2003, is a complex and percussion-rich slice of glorious afro-cuban jazz fusion, is only now seeing the light of day, having this year been given serious underground airtime and club play.

The EP also features an infectious and distinctive and remix from the mighty Opolopo and a vocal-rich deep house remix from AriesAudio (Josh Emman). Again, both tracks have been had strong early reception in the underground scene.

Sol Power All-Stars EP sampler GAMM083

Dubben is back! The highly esteemed producer duo make their debut on Matasuna Records with this superb 7inch. The two have been active since 2007 and released great music with their unmistakable style on labels like GAMM, Resense or Dejavue. Their reworks are not only appreciated by brasileiros, but are also popular all over the world.

With "Jesus Boogie" on the A-side, Dubben turns in a new direction and give this Brazilian gem from the 70s a nice boogie touch. The focus of their treatment is the dance floor, so that the usual dub effects are not used here. The result is an extremely danceable number that makes you scream for more!

On the B-side you'll get "Cachaça" - a rework of an obscure 60s bossa number from Poland. The song was re-arranged and got new rhythm parts, which were flavoured with additional sounds and various effects. The extended dub part with psychedelic harmonica and delays blends seamlessly into the track. A great tune in beloved Dubben style!

It’s always a mixed feeling listening to the lyrics on this. They equally make you laugh but also make you cringe and when Jemini comes in with the lines about Al Green at the end....ouch! Musically, I’ve put in some club friendly 100BPM drums and a rolling & hypnotic bassline.
