A legendary figure within the underground dance fraternity, Pole Folder has been a regular contributor to the Proton Music catalogues over a 15-year period that began in 2006. Among a series of high-profile releases in recent years, 2018's "A Glimpse into the Past" and 2020's "Serengeti" have been outstanding original EPs. It is therefore with enormous pleasure that we welcome back Pole Folder in 2021 with a cast-iron progressive house classic in "Mara". Characterised by delicate percussive top line of delayed claves, gorgeous pads and vibrato lead take centre stage as a multi-coloured landscape gently develops in the early stages with reversed effects and subtle vocal effects. A driving beat enters the fray at the mid-point before a sumptuous bassline sequence creates a truly impressive backdrop for the melodic elements introduced in the first half, to revel in a club-friendly structure.

Little has been left unsaid in relation to GMJ & Matter's seismic contribution to Proton Music. At the beating heart of the label's progressive house output for 5 years, the duo has lit up the underground scene from their studio in Melbourne's idyllic environs. Together, they have been responsible for a host of collaborative original offerings since 2016's "Superposition" while remixes for Andre Sobota, Juan Deminicis and an August 2020 reworking of Nōpi's "Parallel Words", are now complemented by another classic remix. Using Pole Folder's central melodic themes with care and immaculate precision, the Australian pair have carved out a rhythmic structure that rolls gently across their 7-minute offering while themes from "Mara" sparkle across the sonic spectrum. Weaving a glorious sonic tapestry with golden threads from the original's bassline, the track opens up in cinematic grandeur at the breakdown with haunting original melodies and cascading arpeggio before exploding into life once more in the second half with energy and vitality.

Another artist requiring little in the way of introduction to the Proton faithful, Michael A has also been a regular with a cornucopia of original and remix production material that has lit up the label since February 2017's "Bright Hope" EP. A glittering three-year period followed before the Belarusian embarked on a new chapter with his "Fantasy" series, soon to see a third incarnation with "Volume, 3" on the horizon. Remixes for Andrea Cassino, James Warren and Imran Khan have complemented original production material as Michael now reciprocates with Pole Folder after the Belgian remixed "Orbital" in late 2017. Reimagining "Mara", Michael A uses the rhythmic elements of the original to impressive effect as he creates a new groove around the central clave loop. Evolving in elegant fashion a swathe of production material introduces new melodies that criss-cross each other in delicate fashion, blossoming into a sparkling arpeggio in the latter stages. Smooth pads and white-noise effects combine with the reversed motif so prominent in Pole Folder's work as the resonant bassline creates a familiar aural stamp.

As "Mara" takes centre stage, Pole Folder showcases a wealth of talent ably supported by GMJ & Matter and Michael A.

Now celebrating the release of a brand-new original track in the shape of "Mara", Proton Music is proud to highlight the Belgian icon's forthcoming work with a remix from two of modern progressive house's leading figures.

Able to point to a plethora of combined credits with 2016's "Superposition", 2017's "Osmosis" and "2018's "Interscope" making a trio of outstanding original contributions on Proton Music, GMJ and Matter are one of the most recognised underground dance pairings of the last 5 years. Alongside remixes of Andre Sobota, Juan Deminicis and Nōpi, the Australian duo now return to the label to showcase their dazzling talents with a sublime teaser remix for the full "Mara" EP package to follow.

Showcasing their "Intro Mix", a gloriously atmospheric opening hints at elements from Pole Folder's original mix while textured pads and gently rippling melodies emerge amidst a 'Last Post' opening refrain. Building elegantly through metronomic kick and reversed melodic sequences, the track bears all the hallmarks of producers at the very pinnacle of their respective games as a stunning array of production material envelops the listener with cascading waves of gently pulsating sound. Developing into a dynamic rhythmic offering in the second half, melodic elements, heavy beat and ticking percussion converge to create a sumptuous whole that is the perfect precursor to the full release.'

The next time you experience a blackout, take some solace by looking at the sky. You will not recognize it. Beirut had frequent power shutdowns during the war. Before people bought their own generators, one side of the sky was clear at night, owing to the absence of light pollution. That was the side of town farthest from the combat zone. People deprived of television drove to watch the erupting lights of nighttime battles. They appeared to prefer the risk of being blown up by mortar shells to the boredom of a dull evening. So you could see the stars with great clarity. I had been told in high school that the planets are in something called equilibrium, so we did not have to worry about the stars hitting us unexpectedly. To me, that eerily resembled the stories we were also told about the “Sand Swan” of the stars. The very idea of assumed equilibrium bothered me. I looked at the constellations in the sky and did not know what to believe. Callendula is carrying the stars and the sky under his shoulders. This is his first offering for Shango Records. These two tracks can teach you the mysteries of Astrology. Orkidz, Rose Sunset, Boubouteq and Leonor are teasing silver stars in the dark skies.

About the Oshun EP-*

1- Oshun 
We used a mystical voice as a base and built a track with dark and deep beats. We played Some live acoustic guitar to balanced the darkness and warm it up. It’s an invitation to explore  unknown places.

2- Sakura 
Using a famous Japanese traditional theme, we wanted to get a more percussive and deep sound to contrast with the soft melody. We then recorded our own vocals and percussions to add to this live feeling. 
 
3- St Cyr 
A deep and meditative track with a melodic and almost progressive feeling.
We used some religious choir to get that spiritual dark feeling to contrast with the melody that brings out some lights and hope.

Sydney and Los Angeles based Classical Pianist/Composer Van-Anh Nguyen and DJ/Drummer/Producer Mark Olsen blend their two worlds together to form a unique dreamy mix of acoustic and electro sounds. Double Touch are official All Day I Dream artists with multiple releases and performances at the All Day I Dream events around the world.Their shows are a unique blend of a traditional DJ set and live performances, adding in live keys and drums, improvising new directions into their music during their live sets. The synergy and connection between the two is contagious from the stage.

After Lee Burridge played 3 Double Touch songs in his MIXLAB NYC set, Double Touch emerged onto the scene in 2019 with their debut EP on All Day I Dream – “Adagio” which took out the No.1 releases spot on Beatport (Electronica/Downtempo) as well as appeared in the Top 100’s in other genres. Since then, they have released everything from downtempo music on Buddha Bar, through to their club style on TrybesOf. Their Chorophobia EP (TrybesOf) hit Top 5 (Melodic House/Techno) on Beatport. Their debut single “Broken Paradise" was also featured on a Ministry of Sound compilation CD.

Double Touch have performed their DJ set with live instrumentation at events all around the globe, including Return to Rio Festival(Australia), Cercle (Omnia Indonesia), Golden Gate Park (San Francisco, USA), Cloud 9 (Fiji), Glow Rooftop (Vietnam) and Omnia Bali (Indonesia).
