Creation : Evolved, out October 7th on Gravitas Recordings, is a reimagining of the fan favorite Somatoast Album regarding the alchemy of creativity. Inspired by nature, Somatoast makes use of the natural world to serve technical, musical purposes. Seeds pods make shakers and icicles are a percussive ensemble. These carefully selected remixes take each track and expand it in a new way, taking on new genres and styles while keeping the original sounds and ideas of the originals.

Tapping in Boyd Hill (Morillo Remix) begins the remix compilation with a stunning atmosphere and live drumming captivating the listener, building into beautiful strings and an unreal vibe to start this journey.  Dawn (Arcturus Remix) continues these flawless drums into a faster liquid drum & bass pattern with drippy synths and sound design, putting anyone in a happy mood.  Kokoa (Alex Unger Remix) slows down the pace in a perfect way with live strings and a tribal beat impossible not to move to, a flawless groove with dreamy sounds throughout.  Kokoa (Liquid Bloom Remix) takes these same dreamy sounds and original track into a whole new light with added piano and a heavy half-time beat, perfectly blending the line between the two different vibes.  Icicle (Slyph Remix) begins with drippy texture and foley, slowly bringing in light drum & bass drum patterns into a dreamy liquid drum & bass track for the first drop and a perfect half-time counter for the final drop. Creation is Creation (Faelow Remix) dives into the original album title track in a whole new way, with more drippy textures and foley over a downtempo beat that takes a full journey.  Creation is Creation (Alex Fun Remix) takes a completely different approach and creates an insanely groovy house track, using the same mind-melting sounds into a whole new style that we can’t stop bopping our heads to.  Icicle (Lil Fish Remix) takes the same Icicle track in a whole new direction with captivating string instruments building into an epic drop capturing the signature Lil Fish sound, a perfect closing of this compilation.

Lui Mafuta presents This Ain’t Jazz, a boundary-pushing new EP that fuses live musicianship
with electronic sensibility - an exploration of jazz influence through a deeply personal and
collaborative lens. 

The release is available on digital platforms and as a limited vinyl edition.

At the heart of This ain’t Jazz is a long gestating idea: to bridge electronic music with an
organic, band oriented aesthetic. Lui Mafuta reunited with four longtime friends and
collaborators: Paul Janoschka, Felix Roos, Jonas Esser and Benedikt Jäckle - who all studied
music together in Mannheim before scattering across the globe. Under the loose collective
named Weiller, they came together once again to create a sound that lives between genres.

The EP is a globe spanning production. Piano was recorded on Paul Janoschka’s Steinway in
his Frankfurt apartment; trumpet and clarinet were tracked in a rural French studio with Felix
Roos; drums came from New York via Jonas Esser; and saxophone was laid down in Lui’s own
studio in Mannheim alongside Benedikt Jäckle. All elements were finally assembled and
shaped into a cohesive vision back in Mannheim.

“There’s less synth work on this one than usual,” Lui says. “Most of the textures come from
the instruments themselves and a lot of sample mangling. I wanted it to feel raw, human and
alive.”
Despite its title, This Ain’t Jazz is a love letter to jazz’s influence. “I called it that just to be
safe,” Lui jokes. “It isn’t jazz but it’s coming from that space.” The project also serves as a
reconnection to his roots: two of the four featured musicians are teenage friends from his
earliest days making music.
