MIN - Mix (NLK)

We had a good body of a track going that we were pretty happy with, but we needed some vocals on there. Being in rural Vermont, finding someone was harder than we thought it would be. So we took our search to Tinder (obviously) and found Julia Kate Davis, who, it turns out, is a talented songwriter/singer. She came over 4 hours later and let us record her voice as she sang over our piece. Ultimately she ended up contributing to some of our other songs as well. Whatever it takes to get what you need, right?

Concentrated Goodness

It was cold and snowy every day, so, naturally, we found ourselves drinking vast amounts of tea and smoking too many cigarettes. It was all we had consumed for the better of a week, and quickly became the theme of this song.

Cigs & Tea

Our good friend, the brilliant multi-instrumentalist Roy McNeil, wanted us to remix one of his songs. This is what we came up with and he pointed out that we changed the track so much from his piece that we may as well call this an original.

Honest Man

Duck recently spent some time in Paris to continue his study (and love) of Techno music. We decided to create this track with Parisian Techno in mind, with our own taste. This track is dedicated to the Techno scene in Paris, as well as letting go of the past.

So I

We went on a hike through the woods by the frozen river and recorded all the sounds that surrounded us. These noises are prevalent in this piece, acting as our main percussive body and ambience.

It's been over a year since my last posted mix...February 2015...wtf. This is what's on the mind. This is me doing.

FLI - Mix (NLK/Duck)

This was the first (and only) gig I played outside of the US. I was humbled to be brought on by one of my dearest friends, Alex Don Johnston. When in London a few years back I jumped at the opportunity to DJ with Alex at his local event the Magic Hatstand. Some of the nicest people I have ever met.  I got nostalgic and realized it had been missing from our page for quite some time. Hopefully more of THIS kind of thing will be happening soon... :)

Although the weather remains seemingly the same here in Los Angeles, I can feel the rest of the Northern hemisphere cooling and collecting for the frost. Into the dark cold; an ambient Techno mix.

This mix marks the beginning of my new series of weekly Techno mixes for DASH radios Fantom radio show every Saturday. Enjoy the ambient beginning of a nice dark and healthy Techno mix.

A much needed dose of cool crispness after the increasing heat of the Los Angeles summer. Enjoy the journey, waited for the proper moment on this one.

Marie gave us some insight into what what lay behind her process on this one:

"To me, a mix is a blank canvas to share my favorite sounds and catch my audience's attention without necessarily needing to keep them dancing. When I was asked to send in a mix and no genre was specified, I was immediately inspired to dig for new music to create a story using my favorite sounds. When thoroughly digging for music, I found myself most drawn to minimal and dub techno, break beats, and ambient sounds. After sorting my current library with all the new music I had found, I realized I had started putting together a very eclectic playlist of my favorite tracks. Since there were no expectations other than trust that I would send in a killer mix, I decided to challenge myself to creating a fluid blend of all my favorite tracks no matter what genre they were classified as."
