Drawing its title from Chapter 4 of The Life of Black Communist Claudia Jones: Left of Karl Marx, "What is an Ocean between Us?" aims to both celebrate the multiplicitous nature of the Black Diasporic experience and critique the cognitive dissonance that occurs within this identity, also understood as "the Great Camouflage", an idea articulated by Suzanne Césaire. Alongside guests, Suannette aims to solemnize the innate condition of being Caribbean, as being Caribbean is to practice errantry — it is to search for each other across oceans, time, and, in this case, through sound.

This iteration of "What is an Ocean between Us?" is in solidarity with Cuba as its peoples continue to experience economic distress under the US Blockade. In the words of Claudia de la Cruz, co-executive director of the Peoples Forum "the only threat that Cuba poses to the US is the possibility of hope. The only threat that people are able to see is that it is possible for a government to put its people front and center."
