Changing the codes of electronic music, blue Dietrich is an alternative project driven by musician and sound engineer Felipe Paiva. From its conception in 2019, his unique way of producing electronic music has opened the doors to iconic independent labels like Bar25 and Café de Anatolia, as well as festivals like Burning Man and Chateau Perché.

*What pushed you towards music production? Where did the inspiration come from?
I’ve always had this inner need to express my creativity, and it could be in any domain. For me, music was the “tool” that was most adapted (it fits my geek side, it has a certain technicity for instrument learning, it has an incredible power on people), and so it was a perfect match to me. 
When producing, my inspiration comes from the music I hear around me, independently of the style. I actually don’t listen much to electronic music! Instead, I’m more into world music, rock,  jazz, pop, and then I feel the need of “changing” something, adding a certain flavor to something I’ve heard somewhere. What I love in electronic music is this DIY simplicity; you don’t need a full band, a studio and money, everything can be done with few things, and really quickly.

* Do you think music interconnects with culture? How does the environment you live in affect your music?
Music as an expression of culture. The harmonies, scales, instruments, rhythms, everything in music is materializing certain aspects of a culture. Maybe the composer / interpreter doesn’t even know it consciously, but it’s there.
For blue Dietrich, I try to make the people “travel” between different cultures and vibes. To be able to create a certain vibe with the audience, it is really important that I “deconstruct” the music I hear, so that I can “pick” different elements which I’ll then use to create the “flavours” of a certain culture and/or mood. In my point of view, the best way of doing this is to listen to music and travel, “live” things with my own eyes and ears, so that I can better “feel” things, capture them, and then add my “signature” elements, which keep an overall coherence of my work. 

* Do you get inspired by any other form of art?
Yes, mainly cinema. It helps a lot to “dive” into a vibe and get the music out of it.

* What makes a set a good one?
In my point of view, the capacity to take the audience into a trip, through different cultures and emotions. But this is a personal choice; sometimes people just want to dance to the beat and decompress…that’s fine for me too :)

* What’s the process you follow when bringing tunes together? Is it instinctive only or do you plan ahead?
I’ve been mainly playing only live sets since 2 years now, so I tend to compose music oriented to this. I let go of this constraint of making “songs”; I write music which are sometimes just interludes, or themes which are not even electronic music at all. 
Then the process of playing live to me is to define a “plot”, a “script” of where I’m going to take the public to. A “desert” vibe? A “latin” vibe? a “city nights” vibe? Then which moods, “ironic”, “playful”, “sensual”, etc. Once I have this in mind, the choice of the music to be used flows easily, and most of the time I compose some new music for each set, which I “test” to see how the public (and me!) feel it

MoM, DJ based out the Andalusia’s city of Cordoba.

His first experiences with mixing tables was back in

1989 when he was attracted by acid house music and

the latest pieces on funky and disco music. His first

professional experience at a DJ booth was around

techno music at clubs like Teiker and Plató, two of the

most renowned clubs in Cordoba.

In 1993 is when he started to listen to the first deep

records through WORKS music label. During this

period is when he met a DJ with more experience,

Miguel Martín who introduced him to the richness and

depth of electronic music. The Spanish music label

CONTRASEÑA was still publishing the latest records of

electronic guitar but it also had a special connection

with the dance floors through their depth.

Miguel’s influence on MoM was such, that even years

after Miguel’s death in 2009, he created a radio show

called “mut&mut” along with the speaker Jesús

Zamora. The name of the show was a tribute to “MUT”

the name of the only maxi-single published by Miguel

Martín.

MoM ́s experience and creativity allowed him to take

on a new professional challenge: leading Pep ́s

Records marketing department in Madrid.

After a few years of working and achieving good

results he decides to create Carta de Ajuste

Comunicación ,his own Management and Marketing

agency. During this period he performed sessions in

Córdoba, Sevilla, Tarifa, Caños de Meca, Marbella,

Madrid, along with various cities around Spain.

His sessions are mainly based on house and tech-
house but in 2009 he rediscovers his passion for deep

music and starts exploring with darker sounds and

slower speeds.

This is where his Chic ́n ́deep sessions were born, full

of depth, slowing down to even 120 BPM.

Somewhere, way up there in a galaxy far, far away, there was a boy floating around in space.
This boy’s head was filled with sounds so trippy, so unique and so melancholic - that when an idea came, it was unlike anything you’d ever heard before. The boy’s ears were filled with endless amounts of recycled stardust - so that whenever he put on his headphones to make music, everything he created sounded like heaven. And the boy’s mind was constantly buzzing with impulses - so that whenever he expressed himself, they came pouring out of him in the form of sublime music. To us, he is known as Ninze.
Ninze is multi-faceted, yet utterly recognisable in his style. Having first taken the music scene by storm with unique productions and famously slo-ow DJ sets alongside his 2nd half Okaxy, he has since evolved as a solo artist as well as a member of the production- and live performance trio Wide Awake. 
No matter what he does, you can always hear it: that distinct sound that makes your knees feel like jelly and your thoughts like cloudy shadows. It’s a vibe that transports you to a place in your mind, something in between diving into trippy underwater melancholia and shooting up into deep cosmic space.
It’s only fitting then that our next podcast is a live set recorded specially for the Urban Cosmic Universe. If you listen closely, you’ll notice the little shooting stars, pulling you deeper and deeper into a world you can lose yourself in with ease. 
So finally, to quote the man himself: “roll it up, light it up, press play”*
