Based in Sofia, simeon fichev has undoubtedly been affected by the whirlwind of genres that the night life in the capital has to offer.
His distinct sound can definitely be classified as melodic-progressive or melodic-tech, something that the Bulgarian dance scene certainly needs more and more of. He draws his inspiration from the likes of  Lee Burridge, Newman, Facundo Mohrr, Volen Sentir, Mark Alow and many other titans of the melodic progressive sound, even though, more minimalistic genres like micro and minimal house, have certainly influenced his style as well. 

Now to the set itself... Breath taking atmospheric sounds, tribal drums, oriental flutes and ethnic vocals from far away lands. It has the full arsenal to take you on a trip to the farthest corners of a land of dreams.

Hello and welcome along with the 20-th episode of Amazing Trip Session. This is time my friend simeon fichev is taking you on a slow and downtempo trip. Turn the volume up and enjoy the ride!

Where were you born and raised?

- Born in Pleven, Based in Sofia

Describe your music journey with few statements. How everything started and how you ended up to electronic music. Which factors shaped your music taste?

- My taste in music has undoubtedly been affected by the whirlwind of genres that the night life in the capital has to offer and the never ending search of something new to listen to. Some might say that tribal is my jam, some might say that downtempo is where I feel most at ease, others might classify my distinct characteristics as melodic organic. Use whatever word or genre you would like, I would personally say I like good music, music that makes you think, music that makes you seek, music that makes you feel...

 What can we expect from your mix?

-The mix is an attempt for a more melancholic, sensitive, and yet, trippy downtempo selection. My main focus was to bring your attention to the multiple small sounds and accents through out each of the tracks. It might sound crazy for the peak of summer but that's what felt right. Listen closely to the rich and chaotic symphony of sounds that the selection presents and, who knows, in this giant mess of craziness you might find your favourite little sound.

Who are you?
"simeon fichev"

How did you decide to begin DJ-ing?
"Once I moved to Sofia I was undoubtedly affected by the whirlwind of music genres that the night life in the capital of Bulgaria has to offer."

How would you describe your style?
"My distinct sound can be classified as organic, melodic-progressive, melodic-tech downtempo. I also dabble into the micro and minimal sound."

Where does your inspiration come from?
"My inspiration comes from the idea of storytelling. How through music you can embark on a journey to different places without moving. This is something I am always trying to incorporate into the creation of my mixes."

Who would you say will enjoy the style of music you play?
"Everyone but especially someone who is prepared to dive into the breathtaking atmospheric sounds, tribal drums, oriental flutes and ethnic vocals. Sounds that could  help one reach the furthest corners of their soul."

Moody Plate Series #011 By simeon fichev (BUL🇧🇬)

After a rainy morning in late March, Hekske (the little witch) and Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) went for their daily inspection round of the damp witch’s forest. Along the way, they met with a group of squirrels, a group of starlings and a group of snails, after which they had a chat with Barney the barn owl. He remembered that centuries ago, there used to be special names for all specific groups of animals, but now all these names have been forgotten. Then Falke asked whether he was really sure that all these names had been lost for good. Barney gave it a deep thought, and then he said that ‘mayybee … maybe there is a chance that the owls of Snowdonia have preserved these ancient names’. And Barney proposed to fly to that place, which left the witches elated. Hekske uttered a size reduction spell and both (now pocket-sized) girls jumped on the back of Barney, who flew away in Western direction. After a long flight over the North Sea on the wings of the owl, a pod of porpoises showed them the way to the island of Albion. And on top of the white cliffs on the coast, the visitors were immediately spotted by a watch of nightingales, who showed them the way to Snowdonia. On the edge of the forest, a murmuration of starlings took over and guided their guests to the hollow willow tree. Barney, Hekske and Falke entered the tree through a small hole, but after entering they found themselves in the middle of a vast chamber which was full with owls. This was obviously the parliament of owls and its eldest member (a venerable eagle-owl) welcomed their visitors, and enquired what was the purpose of their quest. Hekske explained that they were seeking the names of all specific groups of animals. Upon hearing this request, the eyes of the eagle-owl lit up and he started to smile. He showed his visitors the way to a secret library, where they found a very old and dusty book. The eagle-owl explained that this was the original book of St-Albans, written in the 15th century and one of the oldest printed books of Albion (and the oldest English book written by a woman). Hekske and Falke cautiously opened the age-old book and browsed to the chapter about ‘The Companies of Beasties and Fowlies’. And there they found the list of all groups of animals … a gaggle of geese, a bike of bees, an unkindness of ravens, a murder of crows, a conspiracy of rooks, a skulk of foxes, a business of ferrets …
This book was a real treasure which left the witches breathless. The rest of the day, Hekske, Falke and Barney memorized over 100 different group names, after which they said goodbye to the parliament of owls and flew back to their home forest in Flanders. And after a long flight they got a warm welcome by a group of coots … and now they could reveal that they were actually a ‘covert’ of coots …

We all know this moment - you are lying in bed with a loved one on a Sunday and the world stands still.

You put on some music to set the scene for rising temperatures under the sheets…

The set you put on suddenly brings you out of rhythm, but getting up to skip the track is no longer an option.

We have been scouting for the perfect Sunday morning sets for quite a while already and while "Eigentlich heissen wir Klaus" & "Mattmosphere" have been steady suppliers of them for us, we also developed the idea of asking befriended artists to record one hour of music, to which they like to stay in bed with a loved one.

It's an intimate ask, but most of them said yes.

@duygu_music is a resident from our @love-foundation family and she created a beautiful journey for those Sunday mornings that we love.

For the perfect cuddling experience @ueberhaupt_ausserdem did the mastering of the set, just for that little extra nudge of pleasure <3

Cuddle Cast #9 - Duygu

⫷ Kiskă. ⫸ I am thrilled to share the set I played at Lusatia Festival! A bit nervous at the beginning, I relaxed while the journey unfolded. In the end, I loved every second. Seeing you all dancing and letting go in the cozy & smoky Wooden Hut stage made me super happy. I loved the intimacy we shared for a moment under this big octopus above our heads! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This set is an ode to Freedom, a tribute to Kiska and Tokitae, two orcas who recently died alone in their tank after 50 years of captivity.

For the story, Kiska was captured from the wild in 1979, when she was only 3 years old. She spent much of her captive life performing alongside other orcas, but by November 2011 Kiska found herself to be the last remaining captive orca in Canada. Having outlived all of Marineland’s captives, including five of her own calves, Kiska was left all alone, not only in complete isolation from her own species, but also any suitable companion species too. As incredibly social, tactile animals who form close bonds, the absence of another orca or any companion at all was incredibly alien to Kiska. She had been left to run herself down, swimming in circles and logging listlessly, while her calls and vocalizations went unanswered for 11 years! 

Kiska was robbed of her wild family to serve a billion-dollar industry, only to end up unwanted and alone at a rundown marine park until her body couldn’t take it anymore.

44 years in total of a torturous lifelong imprisonment where only in death Kiska found freedom. Tokitae, known as Lolita, had the same fate after 50 years of imprisonment, not long after the decision of sending her to a sanctuary was taken. But too late…

As a conscious artivist, I’m endorsing the role of being an advocate for the voiceless and I chose music as an art expression as it conveys a lot within the vibration of each tone. And words for their vibrational power too.

I invite you to dive deep within my musical interpretation of what Kiska’s and Tokitae could have expressed throughout various emotions. I wish to thank all producers for their amazing creations and bringing this set to life.

Orcas inspire my dreams to expand my musical project to a bigger scale to be at service of the Ocean and its inhabitants.
