With its 10th edition, Dalmata Daniel’s split series brings together two artists who have both left their mark on the label’s compilations, now presenting their first full releases on the imprint. Anatolian Weapons and The Spy approach electronic music from different angles, one rooted in hypnotic techno rituals, the other in raw electro and post-punk energy. Both craft sounds that thrive in the shadows of the dancefloor. On the A-side, Anatolian Weapons delivers three cold, hypnotic cuts. "Trapped" opens with heavy EBM percussion and a buzzkill bassline, setting a tense, mechanical tone. "Further Spiralling Down" sinks deeper into darkness with a grinding low end, tight drums, and electro-tinged claps, forming the side’s relentless highlight. "Apathy Through Shock" closes with pounding, catatonic rhythms and a mournful, otherworldly melody, pushing the listener into disorienting depths. Flipping over, The Spy’s raw, electro-driven energy takes hold. "Same Blur" channels sharp electro beats with a punkish sneer and cosmic synth lines. "Falling", featuring The Spy’s own vocals, leans into melancholic new wave, pairing bouncy rhythms with bittersweet melodies. The closing "Pretending" drifts into the darkest corners, offering low-slung, haunted electro layered with distant, spectral harmonies.

Ivan Smoka arrived on planet Earth the same year as the movies Alien and Star Wars, specifically in the city of Madrid. His family of music lovers exposed him to artists like Brian Bennett, Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, Imagination, The Who... and from the age of 3, Iván would play at being a DJ with his brother's vinyl records on a stool (there are photos of this).

He collected music from a young age, and at the tender age of 13, he and his private English teacher would religiously review the NME magazine every month. The explosion of British music in the 90s influenced him greatly, from power pop to electronic and trip hop, and by 17 he had his first DJ mixer. Later, he teamed up with Vasco Ispirian and Álvaro Cabana, and together they began exploring music production. Much has happened since then.

As a DJ and promoter, he has been involved in iconic Madrid clubs like Coppelia 101, Wonky, and Absenta, and has played at venues such as Sónar, FIB, Supperclub (Amsterdam), Café del Mar (Sicily), and Mono (Mexico City).

As a producer, he has unique projects: Gatos Negros, Disco Felino, and Superama 3am, which demonstrate that Iván in the studio is like Mr. Spock on the Enterprise; he understands the technology and communicates with it like a true expert. His work has received support from music gurus like Tim Sweeney and Bill Brewster, and among the artists he has remixed are Cycle, Ekkohouse, Kurt Kjergaard, and recently his partner and friend Thaddeus X, with whom he forms a musical duo.

With a 20-year career as a producer, he has collaborated with Thaddeus X, releasing tracks on major labels such as Mobilee, Akbal, Lucid Flow, and True Deep, among others; and also released music independently, on labels like Blindetonation, Nein Records, Emerald & Doreen, Burning Synths, Kyma Komplex, Mode 33, Rotten City, Dusk & Waves, Envy Music, and the cult label Minuendo.

Hello friends
I'm very excited to present a new episode of my Indie Dance The Mix series today.
This time with DJ duo Ubre Blanca from Glasgow, UK

BIO
In 2013 Ubre Blanca began creating soundtracks for films which were never made and music from futures that never came to pass, releasing three critically acclaimed EPs heavily influenced by such synth and soundtrack pioneers as John Carpenter, Goblin, Tangerine Dream and Fabio Frizzi.
As well as recording live sessions for Vic Galloway on BBC radio and Subcity Radio, the band has played live shows supporting: Wolfgang Flür, Zombie Zombie, Eclair Fifi, KXP, Umberto, Antoni Maiovvi, The Twilight Sad, Molly Nilsson, Free Love NRG and a UK tour supporting fellow Glaswegians Errors (Rock Action).

Recently the band have turned their attention squarely towards the dancefloor as a means of reconnecting with everyone else who feels the urge to dance through the darkness, with the new tracks receiving support from DJs including Jen Cardini, Pablo Bozzi, I Hate Models, Stacey Pullen, Zanias, Skelesys and WLDV.

In 2023 they released two albums: 'Rhizome' on Vienna based label Archaic Future Sounds and 'Fire in the Sky' on Khoinix (London). Their latest EP ‘Black Lotus’ was released in February 2025 on Nubians of Plutonia (Milan).
