Berlin-based composer and producer Artur Sommerfeld – aka sommerfeld – is busy creating a niche in the German capital. But not in the most obvious way. Forging his own path beyond the city’s well-trodden techno trails, sommerfeld’s reduced style cross-steps ambient, experimental and even the outright cinematic.

Having had an intrigue in music sparked at an early age, the first instrument sommerfeld set out to learn was the piano. Without doubt, all the other instrument’s the young producer has mastered since centre on pianism; it’s the pole around which everything else circles. As his maiden mix for Plug & Lay signals, sommerfeld’s sound effortlessly scales a multitude of genres. Yet his improvisational approach always starts with the keys.

Over the next hour, lay down and join sommerfeld on a foray through his unique musical machinations.
