After Daniel Wang and Jules Etienne set the bar very high with their remixes for „Robot Magico“ and „Disco Fantasy“ by Daniel Grau (SK280), it's now time for the next three songs by the forgotten Venezuelan Cosmic Disco producer to come under the knife.

With his debut „Rivers Of The Red Planet“ (just out on Tartelet Records) 21-year-old Berlin based Max Graef is making massive waves right now across all borders. Still he found a slot in his busy schedule to enhance three songs out of Daniel Grau's elusive archive  – together with befriended DJs/producers from the Oye Records entourage. Upgrading all of them in a state-of-the-art cutting-edge fashion. That's how „Tren Del Espacio“ (originally released on the 1978 album „El Sonido Magico De Daniel Grau“) suddenly becomes a straight forward slamming house track with added Caribbean spice mid-in. A completely different approach is applied by Graef and Labuzinski on the remix for „Nunca Conocí Amor Igual“ (off the album „440 Toker“ from 1982). The vocals by Laurye McGregor are stifled by a menacing dubsteppy killer beat and only slosh to daylight occasionally. An impressive and awe-inspiring deconstruction maybe also Madlib or The Alchemist would come up with if stuffed with enough medication. Make sure you serve this cold! 

And then there's the collaboration of Graef with Oye Records honcho Markus Lidner aka Delfonic. Also with this remix of „Delirio En Fa Menor“ (off the 1976 LP „Mas Alla De Las Estrellas“) you can literally feel the affinity towards what we used to call leftfield hiphop. A badass beat framework binds the ever collapsing samples of the original. It's like Graef and Delfonic hold a picture of the original tune in their hands and then tearing it in half, just to piece it back together again back-to-front. This is adulteration by permission. Or to put it in another way: This is how you get away with murder. Another milestone in Max Graef's still juvenile career!

Au menu, de la funk, de la disco, de la house mais aussi plein d'autres choses. Après trois premières éditions ayant vu défiler Alex de Katapult, Julien Lebrun, Guillaume du Mellotron ou encore Théo Top de La Mamie's et Jim Irie qui les rejoindront comme DJ's résidents sur leur prochain évènement, ils décident de créer une série d'edits gratuits dans la lignée de l'after.

A driving jackin’ jazzy house cut in A minor at 123 BPM, A Bigger Ego Death Than Anyone Else fuses playful piano riffs, booming 808 kicks, and rolling bass with occasional slap bass punches and warped acidic guitar stabs. Subtle tribal percussion accents weave through the groove, adding texture without overpowering the rhythm.

Layered across the dancefloor energy are spoken-word snippets—dry, satirical, and ironic—riffing on transformation culture, utopian ideals, and the contradictions of excess. The result is equal parts club-ready jackin’ house and comedic social commentary, blending funky improvisation with explosive builds and drops.

This track sits somewhere between jazzy house, tech-funk, and surreal spoken performance, making it as much a playful satire as a dancefloor weapon.

We recon it’s time for a full Junktion EP on Outplay! You can say Wide Awake is an appropriate title after a wonderful 2015 with a string of EP’s on Sleazy Beats, Razor-n-Tape and Rose Records. This four tracker explores the sound he’s been developing over the years and even touches a newer side. The EP opens with the title track “Wide Awake” and embodies the signature Junktion sound with a summery balearic touch. “What We Are” is a faster synth laden affair coupled with his usual sample action. “Sunny Side Up” is what the title says it is, a sunny disco track driven by a groovy bassline and a funky rhythm guitar. The EP closes down with “Don’t Mess Up” for a more contemplative jazzy track with some smooth sampling and afro touches.

No need to say that by launching a new imprint Ethyène decided to show a different side from his previous work. We can definitely feel it from the first second the record starts, with Static, mashing up samples from 80's dub music and west-coast funk to finally sound as a surprising modernized classic house anthem. The second track of the record 'Enove Lough' features a deconstructed and mysterious Rhodes loop delivering a smart groove until a delightful sexy vocal sample get in the mix to round off this deeper but easily danceable cut. The B-side of the record starts with 'Cape Town Mambo', a tune whose graceful horns loop keeps the listeners on an endless dreamy trip while its mid-tempo jazzy beat will have them hips sensually shaking without any doubt.
