Brand new from Brazil. "Batuque é Reza Forte" showcases the beautiful warmth and energy of Brazil's best kept secret, singer, composer, producer and radio presenter, Arícia Mess. This soulful samba features the voice and a little composing assistance from the legendary  Brazilian singer and composer, Dona Onete, aka  "Queen of Carimbó", and on guitar, Aleh Ferreira, frontman of legendary Brazilian funk band Banda Black Rio. Taken from forthcoming album, 'Versos do Mundo'.

About "Batuque é reza forte", Arícia says: "I have a radio program on internet, I spent the last three years travelling in Europe singing, doing shows and recording interviews in Berlin, Paris, Portugal and London. When I was in London I met Dona Onete for one interview, but she fooled me into it (LOL). She started talking about something else, about my work as a composer, she started singing melodies, saying that she was doing it for me! That is the recording that you hear at the beginning of the song. I ask her: "are you composing this song now?". She replies: "that’s for you!" Then I scream! So, there was no interview, and that's how Batuque is a Strong Prayer was born. I took the parts when she sings and used her voice in the recording (with the freshness of the moment of composition); the rest of the song I composed later while traveling through England. The recording of that moment, when she sings and improvises extracts of the song is what makes Batuque is a strong prayer a jewel."

"Queen of psyco-quilombolas, radical batuques...Afro-shock-chic", Brazilian with righteous black pride, Arícia sings in praise of the natural forces of womanhood, notably the Afro-Brazilian woman. In her own unique way, she recreates the links between Africa and Brazil. Aricia has a peculiar yet powerful, refined and captivating voice.

At MIMS we love to highlight upcoming talent, so we are extremely excited to premiere "In Convalescence", a thrilling jazz song by South-London pianist & composer Eriksson Kaner, featuring spoken word from O the ghost, ahead of it's full digital release on October 9th. 

"In Convalescence" is Eriksson's third self-released single, and arguably his most developed thus far. We likely first heard him play with the brilliant Levitation Orchestra and have since devoured the two singles he has shared as leader, thrilling examples of how jazz, classical and soul can meet without losing an edge. 

Atmospheric keys, fizzing drums and blasts of brass combine for an epic and emotive serving of highly charged jazz. Recorded with musicians from the likes of Ezra Collective, Arlo Parks, King Krule, Blue Lab Beats and Brothers Testament, ‘In Convalescence’ is a dazzling display of intricate instrumentation, spectacular harmonies and orchestral colours.

MIMS is excited to premiere a brand new cut from gospel-house legends Jasper Street Co., ‘You’re My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration’, remixed by their also legendary producer, Basement Boy and Baltimore club pioneer, Teddy Douglas. 

In 2018, the long-serving gospel-house group Jasper Street Co. returned to action with their critically acclaimed ‘Rejoicing’ album, their first together in 16 years. Consisting of vocalists Randy Roberts, Vonita White and Richard Burton, as well as producers Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen, Jasper Street Co. have been bringing light to the more soulful, spiritual and rousing side of the house genre for over 25 years now and received a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recordings for Louie Vega’s remix of ‘Praying For You’ in 2020. The group's releases have found a home on Teddy Douglas’ The Basement Boys label for the most part until more recently linking up with the famous New York imprint Nervous Records.

Esteemed artist Teddy Douglas has produced for the likes of Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Crystal Waters and is an important figure in the development of the Baltimore “House” Sound. He delivers a remix which touches on elements of soul, funk, disco and house as the pulsing drums bounce elegantly off the celestial synths and enchanting atmospheres.
