MIMS is over the moon to premiere the brand new remaster of Lucas Santtana's "Ogodô Ano 2000", featuring the legendary Tropicalista, Tom Zé. A psychedelic dose of dubbed and acid-fried samba.

"Ogodô Ano 2000" was originally recorded by Zé himself and released in 1992. Santtana chose to re-record the song for his 'lost' album '3 Sessions in a Greenhouse' and asked his uncle, Tom Zé, to contribute.  15 years after that album's release, Mais Um is releasing the album on vinyl and digital formats for the first time, remastered by German dub shaman, Stefan Betke/Pole.

Lucas tells us, "Ogodô Ano 2000 was a song that my band and I used to play during the soundcheck of the tour to promote my second album, around 2003/4. During these soundchecks we were just having some fun, experimenting with applying dub techniques to samba - yet these sessions then became the foundation for my album '3 Sessions in a Greenhouse', released originally in 2006. Tom Zé is actually my uncle so it felt right to ask him to perform the vocal".

'3 Sessions In A Greenhouse' is a lost classic from the catalog of one of Brazil's most regarded and influential contemporary songwriters. Apart from Tom, it also features mangue beat pioneer, Gilmar Bola 8.

Lucas Santtana's 3 Sessions In A Greenhouse, produced by Recife's dubsetter himself, Buguinha Dub, fused psyched-out samba and baile funk with original Black Ark-style studio distortion and spiritual dub dread, laying the foundations for his seminal Sem Nostalgia LP five years later, and in the process, establishing Santtana as a pioneer of Brazil's current new wave.

Troels Hammer - Unique (feat. Felix Kingo) - s0424

Sirocco
Landing on the shores of Essaouira—the historical port of Mogador—in a summer afternoon, brings about a luminously dusty and dry sensation carried by a wind called Sirocco. Beatkozina has grounded this complex tune on the metaphor of this iconic wind: born in the Sahara Desert, the Sirocco travels along the northern cost of North Africa before reaching Europe. The track generates an atmosphere of sparkling euphoria with a steady groovy bass progression, just like a festive parade through the streets of the coastal city. The piano chords and brass sounds bridge influences from North American Jazz fusion a la Herbie Hancock to Afrobeat. The African Fulani flute along with the vocals create a sense of lightness evoking the wind movement but also the ethereal presences on the city’s characteristic rooftops. The tune is filled with sun-kissed moments that are meant to generate the feeling of walking in the streets of Essaouira in a summer afternoon.

Soye
Beatkozina’s approach is all about performing musical connections between diverse musical traditions and beyond borders. The track “Soye” draws a triangular symbolism combining a Brazilian rhythmic pattern to Gnawa tradition carried out by the claps, the guembri bass line, and to jazz chords bringing together African, Latin American, and Western musical traditions. In Hausa language, the language spoken by the largest native ethnic group in Africa, the word “Soye” literally means “to love”. This tune is conceived, not just as an ode to love, but also as an ode to music of African descent, and more broadly to African heritage which motives and patterns travel through time and space. That motion is brought up by the polyrhythmic progression of the track where the layers of drums are reminiscent of traditional hand percussions and syncopated drumming that, ultimately and simply, make you dance.

Wasting All Your Lovin’ is the second single on Sonar Kollektiv from Hamburg based quartet, The KBCS. Hot on the heels of the warmly received Popsicles, which got featured on Clash Magazine, comes this slice of sophisticated soul music featuring the velvet tones of Bowie.

On first listen, Wasting All Your Lovin’ might seem, in contrast to the KBCS’ previous single, a more organized piece of music, complete with resplendent vocal hooks and a very radio friendly sound. Like Popsicles, though, this too started out life as a freeform jam session amongst the four instrumentalists. The only important difference on this one being that this was the only song on the forthcoming album where all four musicians recorded together in one room! Perhaps this is the reason for it’s more crafted feel, or perhaps it’s because of Bowie’s lyrical genius?

„Wasting All Your Loving“ is about a separation, after which one of the two ex-partners does not manage to come to terms with the new reality and accordingly does not live it. Although one is still in the same world, it suddenly seems as if one is in different dimensions. The one who moves on and accepts the reality, manages after some time to see the positive things of the ex-relationship. The other, however, is stuck in the past. - Bowie

Whatever the reason, Wasting All Your Lovin’ should be the song that you hear every morning when you turn on your radio this summer.

The KBCS represent the coming together of four very uniquely gifted, but very complementary, musicians from Hamburg. Drummer Lucas Kochbeck spends much of his time obsessing about vintage recording equipment, tape machines and the like, whilst adding his talents to the recordings of retro-loving contemporaries such the Bacao Rhythm And Steel Band and the Colemine Records family.

Keyboard wiz Nicolas Börger is very much an in-demand, sound-centric master of the blacks and whites, in the same way that guitarist Lars Coelln lends his skills to a myriad of works across the sonic spectrum. Completing the quartet, bottom end provider Daniel Stritzke adds a little freeform jazz and hip hop attitude to the mix, but even then you can find his bass holding things down on crossover hits galore.
Wasting All Your Lovin’ is taken from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, Color Box, due out in November on Sonar Kollektiv. 

Keep an eye out too for their collaboration with Thomas D of Die Fantastischen Vier (The Fantastic Four) - also due out in 2021, which is sure to be a strong year for this terrific tetrad.

'Take Them All' is the fourth single taken from my forthcoming album 'Make Up Your Own Stories', released on October 5th. 

I always like contrast within music; an array of elements that keeps a song diverse and unable to be specific on genre or style. Its what I wanted from this track, having fairly up front beats and basslines but with pretty and melancholic musical elements on top, along with the amazing vocal by The Slow Revolt! Its one of my favourite songs I've ever written, and goes on quite a journey.

Now it's finally here: The debut album «Time To Recover» by Feiertag.

The Multi-faceted artist & producer has established himself as a leading name within the electronic music sphere since making his debut in 2015. He defies convention in ways many cannot, from his immersive productions on Last Night On Earth, Boogie Angst and Kitsune, to his work as a professional drummer alongside Kraak & Smaak at live events including ADE, Down The Rabbit Hole and Pitch Festival.

After two successful EPs and even more singles, Feiertag took his time for this debut album. This can be heard on each of the sixteen tracks: Extraordinary attention to detail, sophisticated arrangements and a sound aesthetic that couldn't sound more modern are probably the first impressions you take away from «Time To Recover». On second or third listen through, however, you realize that almost every one of these songs has hit potential somehow.

After the dubby head-nodding opener «Stranger To One» follows «Yearn» with Oli Hannaford from London and Tessa Rose Jackson from Amsterdam, revealing a melancholic and shimmering musical soundscape. Majestic vocals combine with lush percussive elements and smooth drums, whilst rich chords work atop of resonant strings. A song destined for eternity!

Tessa is also featured on «Follow» and «Riptide». Then there's the collaboration with GOSTO, «Stronger,» a song that gains in punch and impact with each successive listen. And with every rewind, you turn up the volume a little more. As loud as enough that you can also enjoy «It's Alright» with James Alexander Bright in its full glory and exuberant optimism. Similarly good-humored is the instrumental «Saccharine» tasting full of sweet summer, unbridled exuberance and outdoor parties. With «Panorama» Feiertag shows his calmer, more ambient side towards the end of the album to finally set an absolutely dignified closing point together with Pete Josef on «Where Are We Now».

«Time To Recover» is an almost furious ride through current musical styles and genres - all from the artful and almost grandiose orchestrated point of view of Feiertag.
