DJ MARCIA CARR

London born and raised, globe trotting music selector and tastemaker Marcia Carr, also known as Marcia DaVinylMC has been contributing to the UK dance music scene over four decades already.  She’s a stalwart, an aficionado, and a woman who’s definitely not content with sitting still.

As a DJ – in the last few years she's helds residencies at Jazz Cafe, The Cause and Soho House – her club sets weave together a plethora of sounds that pay homage to the Black roots of dance music – past, present and future.  You can find her spinning everything from house to disco, gospel, funk and dubstep, but there’s always a distinct soulfulness or jazzy touch that permeates her selections

That versatility is something she’s honed over the years from playing at venues across the world with some of the biggest names in house, Detroit techno and broken beat, on top of hosting regular broadcasts on different radio stations, including Rinse FM - alongside guest appearances on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, Reprezent, Soho Radio, Balamii - her monthly show "¡Take the Con!" on theboatpod.com draws in a diverse support of followers.

But not only will you find Marcia front of house, she also works behind the scenes helping others with their own musical endeavours.   

Marcia is currently receiving much interest for her joint compilation album project 'Soul Damn Funky' Vol. 2, a release with Brighton's Russell Ruckman.   

As well as being a music journalist and independent consultant, she also runs music PR and artist agency, Talking Music Productions, and is the founder of Girlz B Like – a vinyl-only platform held at Grow, its home in Hackney Wick that spotlights women selectors and DJs - celebrating their tenth birthday in the autumn of  2025, with the release of a debut, limited edition 7-inch vinyl release to mark the milestone.

John Talabot is the acclaimed Spanish DJ and producer who has brought a real sense of melody and occasion to house and techno. The Hivern Discs boss, as well as releasing a standout album in ƒIN, and fine collaborations with Axel Boman and Pional, is also an in-demand remixer celebrated for being able to create majestical grooves from originals by people like The xx and Shit Robot. He has also put together a stunning DJ Kicks mix and now he has been in the booth again, putting together a typically epic podcast for our on going series. 

Across the course of one and a half hours, the Barcelona based Talabot lays out his musical modus operandi in all its glory: serene house riddled with melody, dreamy pads and wavy tones that speak to the soul. With a rather blissed out and dreamy undercurrent, he slowly works through house old and new and keeps a strong, compelling groove present and correct at all times. Officially entitled "Post Summer Melodies" by Talabot, this mix is full of just that, and is sure to keep you warm long after the sun has gone.

The third episode in Afterlife's Voyage podcast series comes from the label's latest signing, Patrice Bäumel. Ahead of the release of 'Glutes'/'Engage' (http://bit.ly/AL004Glutes) on May 12, Patrice ushers in the Summer with a tour through carefully-selected, feel-good records. Subtle, driving and uplifting in equal parts, this Voyage is mixed with the elegance and expertise of someone with over two decades experience behind the decks.

As displayed by his 2016, Kompakt track 'Surge' (a hit in the sets of Tale Of Us), remixes of Depeche Mode or Cubiculor and the upcoming AL004, Patrice is a master of transmitting energy and emotion through his synth lines, arrangements and perfectly-timed vocal sections. He is equally adept as a DJ and this Voyage is a stellar example. Over the 1h45m run time, you're guaranteed to be moved in body and mind. A soundtrack for the summer.

Marian Tone is a Berlin based DJ, producer and promoter who started to spin and dig in the crates in the age of 14, in 1999. Since then, he is digging strictly good and soulful music and stopped caring about genre boarders.  Aside from his music activities he is one of the founders of Beat Kollektiv (together with his brother Markus Tone) who were very successfully running the legendary "Wedding Soul" party in Berlin, which started in 2012, with the aim of enriching Berlin’s music and club landscape with more soul and a wider range of soulful music offside the mainstream. The event- series has found much respect and attention both nationally and internationally. More than 60 shows were made, with more than 15.000 visitors, numerous national and international collaborateurs, artists, collectives and labels, like Aloha Got Soul, Mr Bongo, Wah Wah 45s took part in it.
