Wasting All Your Lovin’ is the second single on Sonar Kollektiv from Hamburg based quartet, The KBCS. Hot on the heels of the warmly received Popsicles, which got featured on Clash Magazine, comes this slice of sophisticated soul music featuring the velvet tones of Bowie.

On first listen, Wasting All Your Lovin’ might seem, in contrast to the KBCS’ previous single, a more organized piece of music, complete with resplendent vocal hooks and a very radio friendly sound. Like Popsicles, though, this too started out life as a freeform jam session amongst the four instrumentalists. The only important difference on this one being that this was the only song on the forthcoming album where all four musicians recorded together in one room! Perhaps this is the reason for it’s more crafted feel, or perhaps it’s because of Bowie’s lyrical genius?

„Wasting All Your Loving“ is about a separation, after which one of the two ex-partners does not manage to come to terms with the new reality and accordingly does not live it. Although one is still in the same world, it suddenly seems as if one is in different dimensions. The one who moves on and accepts the reality, manages after some time to see the positive things of the ex-relationship. The other, however, is stuck in the past. - Bowie

Whatever the reason, Wasting All Your Lovin’ should be the song that you hear every morning when you turn on your radio this summer.

The KBCS represent the coming together of four very uniquely gifted, but very complementary, musicians from Hamburg. Drummer Lucas Kochbeck spends much of his time obsessing about vintage recording equipment, tape machines and the like, whilst adding his talents to the recordings of retro-loving contemporaries such the Bacao Rhythm And Steel Band and the Colemine Records family.

Keyboard wiz Nicolas Börger is very much an in-demand, sound-centric master of the blacks and whites, in the same way that guitarist Lars Coelln lends his skills to a myriad of works across the sonic spectrum. Completing the quartet, bottom end provider Daniel Stritzke adds a little freeform jazz and hip hop attitude to the mix, but even then you can find his bass holding things down on crossover hits galore.
Wasting All Your Lovin’ is taken from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, Color Box, due out in November on Sonar Kollektiv. 

Keep an eye out too for their collaboration with Thomas D of Die Fantastischen Vier (The Fantastic Four) - also due out in 2021, which is sure to be a strong year for this terrific tetrad.

The KBCS - He's Coming

Pockets is the final single to be taken from the critically acclaimed sophomore LP, Colour Box, by Hamburg based quartet, The KBCS. And boy, did they leave the best until last.

As usual, this foursome of erstwhile session musicians jammed out what became Pockets with their customary degree of abandon. Consequently, this led to a number of welcome ‘mistakes’ that contribute towards the magic this talented tetrad so often creates. This time, though, the errors were perhaps a little too plentiful, and when singer Olivier St. Louis got involved in the writing 
process, the whole song was re-arranged and re-recorded by the Berlin based musician. So much so, that the band didn’t even recognize the intro to the song when it was first played to them!

Once again, the addition of a guest vocalist was 
masterminded by label boss Oli Glage who immediately suggested the Washington born and Haitian rooted artist. Olivier’s credits include working with the likes of 
Oddisee, Bibio, Onra and Hudson Mohawke, as well as more recently recording an album for UK Worldwide winning label, First Word Records. St. Louis’ vocals, on this track in particular, are perhaps more than a little reminiscent of Californian rapper Anderson.Paak, which is no bad thing as Pockets is probably one of the most immediate and soulful cuts on the album. A guaranteed ear worm for months to come.

Inspired by neo-soul records and beats, the first ideas of Cream came to life in Lokke's living room. Lokke flipped the classic jazz approach, chords in the left hand plus a melody on top with the right, played the chords with the right hand, and added a bass melody in the left.

'Cream' features Pilar Vega, a Swiss neo-soul singer with Caribbean roots.
Although Pilar is known most as a soul music singer and lyricist, she likes to stretch her boundaries, loves experimenting and working with producers from all over the musical spectrum.
With her recognizable dreamy voice, Pilar Vega paints a picture of growing up, having to live up to expectations and staying true to who you are.

In October last year Pete Josef's second album «I Rise With The Birds» came out. Now Sonar Kollektiv has decided to release four remixes of three different songs off the fantastic album. First of all there is the Jazzanova remix of «Giants», which almost completely gets rid of the vocals, but all the more absorbs the zeitgeist - a remix probably working perfectly for a group of battling breakdancers. The program continues with a remix by Pete Josef himself. The Englishman strips down «This Sun» to its basic structure, then simply building a modern Salsa track out of it. Which brings us to the remix by Friend Within. The Liverpool producer and Pete Josef have been friends for many years, dating back to a 2013 collaboration («The Work») that made it onto Disclosure's Mixmag mix CD. «Mainframe» sounds super fresh after Friend Within's rework and seems like the party banger we've been looking forward to for months! But what Feiertag finally takes the liberty of doing with his remix of «Giants» is beyond imagination. Far away from the original Feiertag's interpretation moves in dark downtempo realms - dubby and spheric at the same time. In short: Each of the four remixes is a small masterpiece on its own.
