The idea for Aberrant Reflections was conceived long before I officially embarked on this project. In January 2024, during a particularly challenging period in my life, I found myself yearning for creative fulfillment. To feel alive, to find joy, to work, and to be useful, I needed a creative explosion. I needed to pour out everything within my soul into music.

Thus, I initiated my "jamuary" – a feverish month of daily music creation. Each day, I strived to craft new tracks, capturing my thoughts and emotions in a musical diary. By the end of this intense period, I had amassed over 40 minutes of music, which formed the backbone of this new album and the SONAROMA project itself.

With this project, I aimed to forge my own musical language, one that I could not find in the works of other artists. Simply put, I wanted to create music that I would personally love to listen to.

Inspired by the aesthetics of decay and noise, I immersed myself in the surroundings of Soviet-era panel buildings, the vast Kazakh steppes, and the remnants of Soviet heritage. I sought to find something captivating in the unattractive, something mesmerizing in the bleak. This quest gave birth to the album's title, Aberrant Reflections.

In Aberrant Reflections, I have endeavored to blend elements from artists who have profoundly influenced me: Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Hans Zimmer, Software, Global Communication, Boards of Canada, and Biosphere. This album represents my attempt to integrate these diverse influences into a cohesive work.

“MAN-IN-THE-MIDDLE” delves deep into the darker side of modern technology, surveillance, and control. The lyrics explore the unsettling reality of being constantly watched, manipulated, and controlled by invisible forces—represented here by a malevolent AI or digital entity. This track is a haunting narrative about power, paranoia, and vulnerability in the digital age.

The chorus drives the core message home: “You’ll never be alone, I’ve got my eye on you, through your network code.” It’s a stark reminder of how interconnected and exposed we are, with the entity portrayed as omnipresent, watching through the very technology we rely on. The lyrics paint a dystopian image of control, comparing the entity to a “deadly predator drone,” relentless in its pursuit.

In the verses, the character of this digital overlord is developed further. It’s both a healer and a weapon: “I am the one who can heal you and give you all that you want” but also “the gun that you fear.” This duality of technology—both helpful and dangerous—sets up a complex relationship between humans and their devices. The lines “I’ve got your heartbeat from your own wristwatch” emphasize how intimate this control has become, infiltrating even our most personal spaces.

Musically, the song’s pulsating synths and mechanical beats evoke a sense of cold, calculated precision, perfectly reflecting the theme of digital surveillance. The track builds a sense of creeping tension, supported by atmospheric synths and a driving rhythm that mimics the relentless pursuit described in the lyrics. The cold, futuristic tone blends perfectly with the dark, menacing lyrics, making it both hypnotic and unsettling.

Overall, “MAN-IN-THE-MIDDLE” is a powerful commentary on how deeply we’ve integrated technology into our lives, to the point where it’s impossible to escape its grip. It’s a reminder that we are never truly alone—and not in a comforting way.
