Michael Moppert and Sonarpilot Audio return bringing you Heartbeat. This is the labels first EP release since the double CD album Radar back in March. The EP features the original mix of the track, plus three stunning remixes from one of the most respected underground electronica producers, Brendon Moeller. He returns to Sonarpilot  having worked his magic onto their huge 'June Dub' release back in 2012.

It's Sonarpilot's original mix of Heartbeat that heads up the EP though, and the message in the music is clear - 'your heartbeat is your drum, your voice is your sound' - The music is within us all, its a universal thing and truly 'the only language that everybody can understand'. Tough, half-step style drums seems to give Heartbeat something of a downtempo feel although the 126bpm tempo actually sits it neatly within the realms of  tech and deep house, a track that would suit the more adventurous DJ's sets but also work as a stand alone piece within any collection. The layered synth lines and melodies interact with the main musical theme of the track, a melancholy flute and string section that builds subtly to reveal an uplifting conclusion late on. In a world of functional electronic music,  'Heartbeat' continues Sonarpilot's mission to making music that somehow tells a story, music that has a longer shelf-life and actually means something beyond the dance floor.

Filtered pads, a deep TB303 bass line and crunchy Roland TR909 high hats drive the track which has everything the more adventurous DJ would need to work a dance floor. The loyal BM fan base and Tech House heads around the world  will no doubt lap it up.

For his second mix, Brendon takes a step to the left. Moeller has been making and releasing music under the name the 'Echologist' since  2005, allowing him to delve a little deeper into the world of dub techno and the art of electronics. His 2011 album 'Subterranean' was a daring, near beat-less experiment in soundscapes, ambient cycles and space that showed he truly has no fear in the studio. The Echologist mix of Heartbeat locks the listener into a mechanic, minimal groove, scattered beats drive the rhythm while quick hits, reverses and synth modulations come and go throughout. He paints a dark picture here, close your eyes and you could very well be in the engine room of the Nostromo.

The 'Space Is The Place Dub Mix' feels a little closer to home, the dub influence on Moeller is much clearer here with its live sounding analog stabs, tweaks and squeaks. It's as if he's in the room with you, working the buttons and knobs on the synths and mixing desk as the tape rolls. It's this more personal, performance element to his work that has won Brendon so many admirers over the years.

For this, the tenth release on his self titled label, Sonarpilot pays homage to the roots of today's electronic music scene. We get three strong mixes from Sonarpilot himself and a remix from up and coming South African House producer, Rudo Deep.
The Original version of 'In The Beginning' sits well with his output from last year, specifically the works his second album 'Radar'. Here we get a more straight up tech-house groove with deep subby kick tones, noises and glitch effects, upbeat chord stabs and of course those catchy synth bass riffs we have become accustomed to from Sonarpilot over the years.
The first of three Sonarpilot mixes on the package is the 'Tech Mix'. Its stark drum machine patterns and industrial flavour will likely appeal to the fans of Trevino and Martyn, the falling and rising stabs, Detroit flavours and twisted vocals bring giving it a raw, futuristic feel. The track breaks down mid-way through to entering a distinctly darker, quieter space before a more haunting melody line is introduced.
Sonarpilot's 'Disco Dub' mix takes crosses the track over into much more jazzier territory. The needle drops onto the vinyl, we get a classic, disco flavoured bass guitar line, brass stabs and broken beat style drum track. There's almost an air of Jazzanova here... its an uplifting and funky track in the truest sense of the word. Sonarpilot as ever though is never too predictable, things switch to deeper and darker places along the way, reinforcing his signature production ideas into the mix.
Young, up and coming South African producer Rudo Deep provides the alternative remix on the package, delivering a stunning afro-deep interpretation of In The Beginning. It's the type of lush warmth you'd associate with kings of the deep house scene; Andre Lodemann, Atjazz and Jimpster and it's a remix that convinces us Rudo Deep is a real name to watch.

Michael Moppert aka Sonarpilot’s original productions have always sat between the lanes, an artist unfazed by the constraints of trend or the blueprint of a specific genre, his music has always had a broader appeal and the confidence to stand up on it’s own in terms of style, arrangement and feel. Audibly sitting somewhere between low slung dub and drum and bass, the original mix of Northern Lights seems to skit between the tempos, the classic amen break punctuating a rolling, half time groove. 
  
Now in its tenth year of releasing Michael Moppert’s music, Sonarpilot Audio endevours to select dance music’s most interesting current artists for remix production, SPAR023 is no different and we welcome Iceland’s drum and bass leading light, Agzilla to the label to rework Northern Lights. 
  
After meeting in Reykjavik through their shared passion for street art, Goldie introduced Agzilla to pioneering London club night Rage and the UKs emerging breakbeat/rave scene. Producing his first music as an early member of Goldie’s infamous Rufige Kru, Agzilla spent the 90s immersed in the scene, running record shops in Iceland, touring the States with Goldie and ultimately bringing the breakbeat science sound to American radio, having relocated there. Returning to Iceland, Agzilla has in recent years built up his RVK DNB events and gravitating back into the studio, he reconnected with Goldie and his Metalheadz label for the release of his first, full artist album in 2019, ‘Cats can hear Ultrasound’. 
  
Remixing Northern Lights for Sonarpilot, Agzilla gives us a solid slice of his unique, freestyle drum and bass sound. Those in the know will spot the iconic sounding headz-style changes and riffs punctuating the track’s stable groove, a nod to Agzilla’s past, clearly stitched into his sound.

The Mirage Project (Season One) [Preview Mini Mix]

Michael Mopprt is an electronic musician and producer who lives and works in Switzerland and France. He is the main creative head behind Sonarpilot.

Growing up musically in the 1970s, Michael opened a recording studio in the 1980s. At night, when the studio was not booked, Michael worked on his own material, using extensively digital technology, samplers and synthesizers. Towards the end of the 1980’s his sound was losing the typical song-structure, tracks became longer, increasingly technoid, ambient and experimental.

​In the early 90’s Michael founded a successful software company that kept him busy for almost 20 years.
 
After leaving the software industry, Michael returned to music-making at the tail end of the 00s. He created Sonarpilot, his musical alter ego and since then has been releasing a steady stream of critically acclaimed electronic music. 
 
In the last ten years, Michael has worked closely with London based producer and DJ veteran Jonny Miller. Together the team initiated the label Sonarpilot Audio to publish Michael's work as well as a range of highly recognised music by electronic music artists from around the world.
