Moon Mom's Song

This is an old Scottish lullaby that my grandfather sang to us, "Go to Sleep my Baby". I sang it to my children too and our pup loved the song. So, with the help of Rob Yates, we translated this song to the Haida Language.

This song was composed by a 3 year old! She was singing about her grandmother's in our Haida language (which is a pretty big deal to hear our babies speak and sing in our endangered language!)...and so we made this recording.

This song is my way of learning and practicing my endangered Haida language. 

“Síigaay gid uu díi íijang- I Am a Child of the Ocean", was translated into my Alaskan Haida language by my cousin Ben, late uncle Miijuu and auntie Viola. 
Ben Young also helped with the pronunciation and translation of this song.

I hear her calling to me.

I'm A Child Of The Ocean - Síigaay gid uu díi íijang

A love song inspired by my Haida grandparents love. They passed away on the same day of natural causes after being married for 53 years.

Lovebirds Song

Eric Cunningham (my husband) created this song and gifted it to me on Mother’s Day 2017. It was inspired from community stories I would share with him. The story in “Smile” was about this man who I briefly met at a Powwow. I was a vendor at the 2017 Native Foster Care Mini Powwow and the alliance was feeding the entire community a traditional feast! This very hungry looking man, walked up to my booth and asked me a simple question, “am I too late?” I smiled and jokingly replied, “No, you’re right on time! INDIAN TIME!” He looked at me for a sec., then threw his head back and let out a big laugh…”ah yeah, INDIAN TIME!” (inside joke lol). Later, I saw him happily enjoying the feast.

‘Sáandlaanaay-The First Light’ is sung in the endangered Indigenous language of Haida - Alaskan dialect.

SEATTLE, WA— This album came together in the midst of the 2020 World Pandemic. Producer/musician, Tim Kennedy and co-producer/Haida singer, Sondra Segundo planned on getting together to add more vocal harmonies, but were not able to due to social distancing requirements.
 
Although the album is not quite finished, the artist wants to release it now, as a free gift to the people during this time of needed prayer songs. Instructions for free digital download below.

The album cover art was inspired by Sondra’s Haida Family Crest - Double Fin Killer Whale (artist wishes to remain anonymous).

Potlatch Fund (Seattle, WA) funded this language revitilization project.
